Hadith 8777
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَقَلِيلٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ [الواقعة: 13-14] شَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَنَزَلَتْ ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ [الواقعة: 39-40] فَقَالَ أَنْتُمْ ثُلُثُ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ بَلْ أَنْتُمْ نِصْفُ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَتُقَاسِمُونَهُمُ النِّصْفَ الْبَاقِي
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that when this verse was revealed: {ثُلَّۃٌ مِنْ الْأَ وَّلِینَ وَقَلِیلٌ مِنْ الْآخِرِینَ} … (A large group of those who are foremost will be from the former people, and a few from the later people). This was very hard on the Muslims, so these verses were revealed: {ثُلَّۃٌ مِنْ الْأَ وَّلِینَ وَثُلَّۃٌ مِنْ الْآخِرِینَ} … (A multitude from the former people and a large group from the later people). Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: You will be one third of the people of Paradise, rather you will be half of the people of Paradise, and in the remaining half you will also have a share.
