بَاب قَوْلِهِ: «اِقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ»
Chapter: His saying: "The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split"
Hadith 8765
عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَرَ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فِي صُورَتِهِ إِلَّا مَرَّتَيْنِ أَمَّا مَرَّةٌ فَإِنَّهُ سَأَلَهُ أَنْ يُرِيَهُ نَفْسَهُ فِي صُورَتِهِ فَأَرَاهُ صُورَتَهُ فَسَدَّ الْأُفُقَ وَأَمَّا الْأُخْرَى فَإِنَّهُ صَعِدَ مَعَهُ حِينَ صَعِدَ بِهِ وَقَوْلُهُ وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَى ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّى فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَى فَأَوْحَى إِلَى عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَى [النجم: 7-10] قَالَ فَلَمَّا أَحَسَّ جِبْرِيلُ رَبَّهُ عَادَ فِي صُورَتِهِ وَسَجَدَ فَقَوْلُهُ وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَى عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَى عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَى إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَى مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَى لَقَدْ رَأَى مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَى [النجم: 13-18] قَالَ خَلْقَ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) that Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), saw Jibreel (Gabriel) (peace be upon him) in his true form twice. Once, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself requested Jibreel, he showed his true form, which filled the horizon. The second time was when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended with him (on the occasion of Isra and Mi'raj), as Allah Almighty said: {وَہُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَ عْلٰی ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلّٰی فَکَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَیْنِ أَ وْ أَدْنٰی فَأَ وْحٰی إِلٰی عَبْدِہِ مَا أَ وْحٰی} … while he was on the highest horizon. Then he drew near and hung suspended. Until he was at a distance of two bow-lengths or even closer. Then he revealed to Allah’s servant what He revealed. When Jibreel (peace be upon him) sensed his Lord, he assumed his true form and fell in prostration. Regarding this, the statement of Allah the Exalted is: {وَلَقَدْ رَآہُ نَزْلَۃً أُخْرٰی عِنْدَ سِدْرَۃِ الْمُنْتَہٰی عِنْدَہَا جَنَّۃُ الْمَأْوٰی إِذْ یَغْشَی السِّدْرَۃَ مَا یَغْشَی مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغٰی لَقَدْ رَأٰ ی مِنْ آیَاتِ رَبِّہِ الْکُبْرٰی} … which he saw with his eyes. And once again he saw him descending at Sidrat al-Muntaha. Near it is the Garden of Refuge (Jannat al-Ma'wa). When there covered the lote tree that which covered it. The sight did not swerve nor did it transgress (its limit). And he certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. They said: This refers to the being of Jibreel (peace be upon him).
Hadith 8766
عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ شَقِيقَ بْنَ سَلَمَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَيْتُ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَى وَلَهُ سِتُّ مِائَةِ جَنَاحٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَاصِمًا عَنِ الْأَجْنِحَةِ فَأَبَى أَنْ يُخْبِرَنِي قَالَ فَأَخْبَرَنِي بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِهِ أَنَّ الْجَنَاحَ مَا بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw Jibreel (peace be upon him) near Sidrat al-Muntaha; he had six hundred wings. The narrator says: I asked Asim about the wings, but he refused to tell me. Then some of his students informed me that one wing spanned from the east to the west.
Hadith 8767
عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فِي قَوْلِهِ مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَى [النجم: 11] قَالَ رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فِي حُلَّةٍ مِنْ رَفْرَفٍ قَدْ مَلَأَ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the saying of Allah Almighty {مَا کَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَارَاٰی} ... "The heart did not lie about what it saw." He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Jibreel in a beautiful garment; he had filled the space between the sky and the earth.
Hadith 8768
عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَ قُلْتُ أَلَيْسَ اللَّهُ يَقُولُ وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ [التكوير: 23] وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَى [النجم: 13] قَالَتْ أَنَا أَوَّلُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْهُمَا فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ لَمْ يَرَهُ فِي صُورَتِهِ الَّتِي خُلِقَ عَلَيْهَا إِلَّا مَرَّتَيْنِ رَآهُ مُنْهَبِطًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ سَادًّا عِظَمُ خَلْقِهِ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ
Masruq says: I was with Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and I said: Allah Almighty says: {وَلَقَدْ رَآہُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِینِ} ... Indeed, he (the Prophet, peace be upon him) saw him on the clear horizon. And He also said: {وَلَقَدْ رَآہُ نَزْلَۃً أُخْرٰی عِنْدَ سِدْرَۃِ الْمُنْتَھٰی۔} ... whom he saw with his eyes. And once again, he saw him descending near Sidrat al-Muntaha. Sayyida (Aisha) replied: Among this Ummah, I was the first to ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about these two verses, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That was Jibreel (Gabriel), peace be upon him. In the form in which Jibreel (peace be upon him) was created, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him in that form only twice. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him descending from the sky to the earth, and his great form filled the space between the sky and the earth.
Hadith 8769
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَى [النجم: 11] قَالَ رَأَى مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَبَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِقَلْبِهِ مَرَّتَيْنِ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, he said regarding the interpretation of this verse {مَا کَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَارَاٰی} … The heart did not deny what it saw. He said: Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, saw his Lord with his heart twice.
