Tawoos says that a man asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the meaning of this verse: {قُلْلَاأَسْأَلُکُمْعَلَیْہِأَجْرًاإِلَّاالْمَوَدَّۃَفِیالْقُرْبٰی} … Say, "I do not ask you for any reward except love for kinship." Saeed bin Jubair said: Here, the kinship of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is meant, but Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: O Saeed! You have acted hastily. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had kinship with every small and large tribe of Quraysh. This verse was revealed about them: {قُلْلَاأَسْأَلُکُمْعَلَیْہِأَجْرًاإِلَّاالْمَوَدَّۃَفِیالْقُرْبٰی} … I do not ask you for any reward for conveying (the message), but I do ask that you maintain the ties of kinship between me and you.
