بَابُ: «وَمَا أَصَابَكُمْ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ»
Chapter: "And whatever strikes you of disaster—it is for what your hands have earned"
Hadith 8744
عَنْ طَاوُسٍ قَالَ أَتَى ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا رَجُلٌ فَسَأَلَهُ وَسُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ طَاوُسًا يَقُولُ سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا الْمَعْنَى عَنْ قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ {قُلْ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَى} [الشورى: 23] فَقَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ قَرَابَةُ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ عَجِلْتَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَكُنْ بَطْنٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ إِلَّا لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهِمْ قَرَابَةٌ فَنَزَلَتْ {قُلْ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَى} إِلَّا أَنْ تَصِلُوا قَرَابَةَ مَا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ
Tawoos says that a man asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the meaning of this verse: {قُلْ لَا أَسْأَلُکُمْ عَلَیْہِ أَ جْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّۃَ فِی الْقُرْبٰی} … Say, "I do not ask you for any reward except love for kinship." Saeed bin Jubair said: Here, the kinship of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is meant, but Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: O Saeed! You have acted hastily. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had kinship with every small and large tribe of Quraysh. This verse was revealed about them: {قُلْ لَا أَ سْأَ لُکُمْ عَلَیْہِ أَ جْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّۃَ فِی الْقُرْبٰی} … I do not ask you for any reward for conveying (the message), but I do ask that you maintain the ties of kinship between me and you.
