Mawla of the Messenger, Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I do not wish that I be given the world and whatever is in it in exchange for this verse: {یَاعِبَادِیَالَّذِینَأَسْرَفُوْاعَلٰیأَنْفُسِہِمْلَاتَقْنَطُوْامِنْرَحْمَۃِاللّٰہِإِنَّاللّٰہَیَغْفِرُالذُّنُوبَجَمِیعًاإِنَّہُہُوَالْغَفُورُالرَّحِیمُ} … O My servants who have transgressed against their own souls, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Surely, He is the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. A man said: O Messenger of Allah! And (what about) the one who committed shirk (associating partners with Allah)? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent and then said: Except for the one who committed shirk (he will not be forgiven). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this sentence three times.
