بَابُ: «وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا أَتَوا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ »
Chapter: "And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful"
Hadith 8683
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ الْمَكِّيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو خَلَفٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي جُمَحٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ مَعَ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فِي سَقِيفَةِ زَمْزَمَ لَيْسَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ظِلٌّ غَيْرُهَا فَقَالَتْ مَرْحَبًا وَأَهْلًا بِأَبِي عَاصِمٍ يَعْنِي عُبَيْدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ مَا يَمْنَعُكَ أَنْ تَزُورَنَا أَوْ تُلِمَّ بِنَا فَقَالَ أَخْشَى أَنْ أُمِلَّكِ فَقَالَتْ مَا كُنْتَ تَفْعَلُ قَالَ جِئْتُ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكِ عَنْ آيَةٍ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَؤُهَا فَقَالَتْ أَيَّةُ آيَةٍ فَقَالَ الَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوْا أَوْ الَّذِينَ يَأْتُونَ مَا أَتَوْا [سورة المؤمنون: ٦٠] فَقَالَتْ أَيَّتُهُمَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ قَالَ قُلْتُ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَإِحْدَاهُمَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا جَمِيعًا أَوْ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا قَالَتْ أَيَّتُهُمَا قُلْتُ الَّذِينَ يَأْتُونَ مَا أَتَوْا قَالَتْ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَذَلِكَ كَانَ يَقْرَؤُهَا وَكَذَلِكَ أُنْزِلَتْ أَوْ قَالَتْ أَشْهَدُ لَكَذَلِكَ أُنْزِلَتْ وَكَذَلِكَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَؤُهَا وَلَكِنَّ الْهِجَاءَ حَرْفٌ
Abu Khalaf Ubaid bin Umair came with Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) to the platform of Zamzam, as there was no other shade in the mosque at that time. Sayyida welcomed and greeted them and said: What prevents you from meeting us? Ubaid said: I fear that I might cause you weariness. Sayyida said: How have you come? Ubaid said: I have come to ask you about a verse—how the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite it. Sayyida said: Which verse is it? He said: {الَّذِینَ یُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوْا} or {الَّذِینَ یَأْتُونَ مَا أَ تَوْا}. Sayyida said: Which of these recitations do you prefer more? Ubaid said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul! One of these recitations is dearer to me than the world and all that is in it. Sayyida said: Which recitation is that? Ubaid said: {الَّذِینَ یَأْتُونَ مَا أَ تَوْا}. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I bear witness that this verse was revealed in this way and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite it in this way, but there is also a recitation with the alphabetical letters.
Hadith 8684
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ الَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوْا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَى رَبِّهِمْ رَاجِعُونَ [سورة المؤمنون: ٦٠] يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هُوَ الَّذِي يَسْرِقُ وَيَزْنِي وَيَشْرَبُ الْخَمْرَ وَهُوَ يَخَافُ اللَّهَ قَالَ لَا يَا بِنْتَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ يَا بِنْتَ الصِّدِّيقِ وَلَكِنَّهُ الَّذِي يُصَلِّي وَيَصُومُ وَيَتَصَدَّقُ وَهُوَ يَخَافُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! This verse: {الَّذِینَ یُؤْتُوْنَ مَا آتَوْا وَقُلُوبُہُمْ وَجِلَۃٌ أَ نَّہُمْ إِلٰی رَبِّہِمْ رَاجِعُونَ} … "And those who give what they give while their hearts tremble" (Surah Al-Mu’minun: 60). I said: (O Messenger of Allah!) Is the person meant by this verse the one who steals, commits adultery, and drinks alcohol, while at the same time fearing Allah Almighty? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, O daughter of As-Siddiq! By this verse is meant the person who performs prayers, fasts, and gives charity, but still fears that perhaps these deeds may not be accepted.
