Hadith 8624
. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him), this Companion was among the group about whom this verse was revealed { وَّلَا عَلَی الَّذِیْنَ اِذَا مَآ اَتَوْکَ لِتَحْمِلَہُمْ قُلْتَ لَآ اَجِدُ مَآ اَحْمِلُکُمْ عَلَیْہِ تَوَلَّوْا وَّاَعْیُنُہُمْ تَفِیْضُ مِنَ الدَّمْعِ حَزَنًا اَلَّا یَجِدُوْا مَا یُنْفِقُوْنَ۔} … And nor upon those who, whenever they came to you so that you might provide them with mounts, you said, “I do not find anything upon which I can mount you,” so they turned back while their eyes overflowed with tears out of grief that they could not find what to spend. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was holding the branches of a tree to shade the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while people were pledging allegiance, and they said: “We pledge allegiance to you unto death.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “No, rather pledge that you will not flee.”
