It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him): When this verse was revealed: {الَّذِینَآمَنُوْاوَلَمْیَلْبِسُوْاإِیمَانَہُمْبِظُلْمٍ} … Those who believe and do not mix their belief with injustice… this was very hard on the people and they said: O Messenger of Allah! Who among us has not wronged himself? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It does not mean what you think. Have you not heard the words of the righteous servant when he said: {یَابُنَیَّلَاتُشْرِکْبِاللّٰہِإِنَّالشِّرْکَلَظُلْمٌعَظِیمٌ} … O my dear son! Do not associate anything with Allah. Indeed, associating partners with Allah is a great injustice. In this verse, injustice means shirk (associating partners with Allah). In another narration, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Have you not heard what Luqman said to his son: {لَاتُشْرِکْبِاللّٰہِإِنَّالشِّرْکَلَظُلْمٌعَظِیمٌ} … Do not associate anything with Allah. Indeed, associating partners with Allah is a great injustice.
