بَابُ : «الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ ۔۔۔الخ»
Chapter: "This day I have perfected for you your religion...etc."
Hadith 8578
عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ إِلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنَّكُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ آيَةً فِي كِتَابِكُمْ لَوْ عَلَيْنَا مَعْشَرَ الْيَهُودِ نَزَلَتْ لَاتَّخَذْنَا ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ عِيدًا قَالَ وَأَيُّ آيَةٍ هِيَ قَالَ قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي [سورة المائدة: ٣] قَالَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ الْيَوْمَ الَّذِي نَزَلَتْ فِيهِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالسَّاعَةَ الَّتِي نَزَلَتْ فِيهَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَشِيَّةَ عَرَفَةَ فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ
It is narrated from Tariq bin Shihab, he says that a Jew came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O Commander of the Faithful! You recite in your Book such a verse that if it had been revealed to us Jews, we would have made that day (out of respect) a festival. He (Umar) said: Which verse is that? He said: The saying of Allah Almighty that {الْیَوْمَ أَ کْمَلْتُ لَکُمْ دِینَکُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَیْکُمْ نِعْمَتِی} … "Today I have completed your religion for you and perfected My favor upon you." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah! I know the day on which this verse was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and even the hour in which it was revealed; it was the day of Friday and the evening of Arafah.
