بَابُ: «لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيكُمْ»
Chapter: "It will not be by your wishful thinking"
Hadith 8567
عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ الصَّلَاحُ بَعْدَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ [سورة النساء: ١٢٣] فَكُلَّ سُوءٍ عَمِلْنَا جُزِينَا بِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ أَلَسْتَ تَمْرَضُ أَلَسْتَ تَنْصَبُ أَلَسْتَ تَحْزَنُ أَلَسْتَ تُصِيبُكَ اللَّأْوَاءُ قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ فَهُوَ مَا تُجْزَوْنَ بِهِ وَفِي لَفْظٍ قَالَ فَإِنْ ذَاكَ بِذَاكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! After the revelation of this verse, how is it possible for a person to be characterized by goodness and uprightness: {لَیْسَ بِأَ مَانِیِّکُمْ وَلَا أَ مَانِیِّ أَ ہْلِ الْکِتَابِ مَنْ یَعْمَلْ سُوئًا یُجْزَ بِہِ} ... The religion is neither according to your desires nor the desires of the People of the Book; whoever does evil will be recompensed for it. Whatever bad deed we do, will we be given its recompense?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Bakr! May Allah forgive you, do you not fall ill? Do you not get tired? Do you not become sad? Do you not experience hardship and difficulty?" I said, "Yes, indeed, we do." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is what you are being recompensed for." In another narration: "This is in exchange for that."
Hadith 8568
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ [سورة النساء: ١٢٣] شَقَّتْ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَبَلَغَتْ مِنْهُمْ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ تَبْلُغَ فَشَكَوْا ذَلِكَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَارِبُوا وَسَدِّدُوا فَكُلُّ مَا يُصَابُ بِهِ الْمُسْلِمُ كَفَّارَةٌ حَتَّى النَّكْبَةِ يُنْكَبُهَا وَالشَّوْكَةِ يُشَاكُهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that when this verse was revealed: {مَنْ یَعْمَلْ سُوئً ا یُجْزَ بِہِ} … Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it. This was very hard on the Muslims and they became extremely saddened, and they complained about it to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Be moderate and remain steadfast on the right path. Whatever hardship befalls a Muslim becomes an expiation for him, even the calamity that afflicts him and the thorn that pricks him.
Hadith 8569
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ رَجُلًا تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ [سورة النساء: ١٢٣] قَالَ إِنَّا لَنُجْزَى بِكُلِّ عَمَلِنَا هَلَكْنَا إِذًا فَبَلَغَ ذَاكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ يُجْزَى بِهِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ فِي الدُّنْيَا فِي مُصِيبَةٍ فِي جَسَدِهِ فِيمَا يُؤْذِيهِ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a man recited this verse: {مَنْ یَعْمَلْ سُوئً ا یُجْزَ بِہِ} … Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it. And then he said: If we are recompensed for every bad deed, we will be destroyed. When this matter reached the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: Yes! (Recompense is given for every bad deed) but the calamity that afflicts the believers in this world, which causes them distress, is the recompense (for their sins).
