بَابُ: «نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ»
Chapter: "Your wives are a place of sowing for you"
Hadith 8508
عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَابِطٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى حَفْصَةَ ابْنَةِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي سَائِلُكِ عَنْ أَمْرٍ وَأَنَا أَسْتَحْيِي أَنْ أَسْأَلَكِ عَنْهُ فَقَالَتْ لَا تَسْتَحْيِ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي قَالَ عَنْ إِتْيَانِ النِّسَاءِ فِي أَدْبَارِهِنَّ قَالَتْ حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ الْأَنْصَارَ كَانُوا لَا يُجِبُّونَ النِّسَاءَ وَكَانَتِ الْيَهُودُ تَقُولُ إِنَّهُ مَنْ جَبَّى امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَ وَلَدُهُ أَحْوَلَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ الْمَدِينَةَ نَكَحُوا فِي نِسَاءِ الْأَنْصَارِ فَجَبَّوْهُنَّ فَأَبَتْ امْرَأَةٌ أَنْ تُطِيعَ زَوْجَهَا فَقَالَتْ لِزَوْجِهَا لَنْ تَفْعَلَ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى آتِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَدَخَلَتْ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهَا فَقَالَتْ اجْلِسِي حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ اسْتَحْيَتِ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةُ أَنْ تَسْأَلَهُ فَخَرَجَتْ فَحَدَّثَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ ادْعِي الْأَنْصَارِيَّةَ فَدُعِيَتْ فَتَلَا عَلَيْهَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ [سورة البقرة: ٢٢٣] صِمَامًا وَاحِدًا
Abdur Rahman bin Sabit says: I went to Sayyidah Hafsah bint Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: I want to ask you a question, but modesty prevents me. She said: Nephew, do not be shy. I said, the issue is about intercourse with women from their back passage. She said: Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated to me that the Ansar did not lay women face down during intercourse, because the Jews used to say that if a woman is laid face down during intercourse, a cross-eyed child is born. When the Muhajirun came to Madinah and married the women of the Ansar and wanted to have intercourse with them face down, an Ansari woman refused to comply with her husband and said: You will never be able to do this until I ask the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. So she went to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) and mentioned this matter to her. She said: Sit down, stay here until the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) arrives. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) came, the Ansari woman was too shy to ask and went outside. When Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Call that Ansari woman. So when she was called, he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse to her: {نِسَاؤُکُمْ حَرْثٌ لَّکُمْ فَاْتُوْا حَرْثَکُمْ اَنّٰی شِئْتُمْ} (Surah Al-Baqarah: 223) ... Your wives are your fields, so come to your fields as you wish. But only one opening should be used.
Hadith 8509
عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ لَمَّا قَدِمَ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ الْمَدِينَةَ عَلَى الْأَنْصَارِ تَزَوَّجُوا مِنْ نِسَائِهِمْ وَكَانَ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ يُجِبُّونَ وَكَانَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ لَا تُجَبِّي فَأَرَادَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ امْرَأَتَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَأَبَتْ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى تَسْأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ فَأَتَتْهُ فَاسْتَحْيَتْ أَنْ تَسْأَلَهُ فَسَأَلَتْهُ أُمُّ سَلَمَةُ فَنَزَلَتْ نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ [سورة البقرة: ٢٢٣] وَقَالَ لَا إِلَّا فِي صِمَامٍ وَاحِدٍ
Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the emigrants came to Madinah, they married women from among the Ansar. Now, the issue arose that the emigrant husbands would have intercourse with their wives while they were lying on their backs, whereas the Ansar did not do so. When one emigrant wanted to have intercourse with his wife in this manner, she refused and said: "I will not allow this until I ask the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." So she came, but she was too shy to ask about this issue. Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) inquired about it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and then this verse was revealed: {نِسَاؤُکُمْ حَرْثٌ لَّکُمْ فَاْتُوْا حَرْثَکُمْ اَنّٰی شِئْتُمْ} (Surah Al-Baqarah: 223) ... "Your wives are your fields; so come to your fields as you wish." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not have intercourse except in one place (which is for intercourse)."
Hadith 8510
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ أُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ [سورة البقرة: ٢٢٣] فِي أُنَاسٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَتَوْا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلُوهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ائْتِهَا عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ إِذَا كَانَ فِي الْفَرْجِ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that this verse was revealed about the Ansar people: {نِسَاؤُکُمْ حَرْثٌ لَّکُمْ فَاْتُوْا حَرْثَکُمْ اَنّٰی شِئْتُمْ} (Surah Al-Baqarah: 223) ... Your wives are your fields, so come to your fields as you wish. But only one orifice should be used. When those people came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him about this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You may have intercourse with your wife in any manner you wish, provided that only the intercourse organ is used.
Hadith 8511
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ جَاءَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَلَكْتُ قَالَ وَمَا الَّذِي أَهْلَكَكَ قَالَ حَوَّلْتُ رَحْلِيَ الْبَارِحَةَ قَالَ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ شَيْئًا قَالَ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَى رَسُولِهِ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ [سورة البقرة: ٢٢٣] أَقْبِلْ وَأَدْبِرْ وَاتَّقِ الدُّبُرَ وَالْحَيْضَةَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have been ruined." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "What has ruined you?" He replied, "Last night I had intercourse with my wife from behind in her front private part." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give him any answer, so Allah Almighty revealed this verse to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): {نِسَاؤُکُمْ حَرْثٌ لَّکُمْ فَاْتُوْا حَرْثَکُمْ اَنّٰی شِئْتُمْ} ... "Your wives are your fields; so come to your fields as you wish." But only one opening should be used. (Surah Al-Baqarah: 223) Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Come from the front or from behind, but avoid intercourse in the anus and during menstruation."
