(A second chain) A group of Jews came to the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, one day and said: O Abu al-Qasim! Tell us some things that only a prophet knows. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Ask whatever you wish, but keep in mind the covenant of Allah and also what Jacob, peace be upon him, took as a responsibility from his sons: that if I give you correct answers to your questions, then you must follow me according to Islam. They said: Alright, this is your right. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Now ask whatever you wish. They said: Tell us about four things: What food did Jacob, peace be upon him, make unlawful for himself before the Torah was revealed? When a man's fluid overcomes a woman's fluid, how is a male child born? How does this unlettered Prophet sleep? And who among the angels is his friend? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I give you the covenant and pledge of Allah, that if I answer you, you will follow me. They gave the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, every firm promise. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I ask you by Allah, Who revealed the Torah to Moses, peace be upon him, do you know that Jacob, peace be upon him, became seriously ill and his illness was prolonged, so he vowed that if Allah healed him, he would make unlawful for himself his most beloved drink and his most beloved food? And his most beloved food was camel meat and his most beloved drink was camel milk? They said: Yes. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O my Allah! Bear witness over them. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I ask you by Allah, there is no god but He, Who revealed the Torah to Moses, peace be upon him, do you know that a man's fluid is white and thick, and a woman's fluid is yellow and thin, and whichever of them prevails, by Allah's command, the child resembles that one? If the man's fluid overcomes the woman's, then by Allah's command, a male is born, and if the woman's fluid overcomes the man's semen, then a female is born? They said: Allah knows, this is the truth. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O my Allah! Bear witness over them. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I ask you by Allah, Who revealed the Torah to Moses, peace be upon him, do you know that the eyes of this unlettered Prophet sleep but his heart does not sleep? They said: Allah knows, this is the truth. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O my Allah! Bear witness over them. They said: You are also like this now. Tell us, who among the angels is your friend? After you tell us, we will either join you or part from you. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: My friend is Gabriel, peace be upon him. In fact, for every prophet whom Allah has sent, Gabriel, peace be upon him, has been his friend. They said: Then we part from you. If any other angel had been your friend, we would have followed and affirmed you. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: What prevents you from affirming Gabriel? They said: This angel is our enemy. At that time Allah the Exalted said: {قُلْ مَنْ کَانَ عَدُوًّا لِّجِبْرِیْلَ فَاِنَّہٗنَزَّلَہٗعَلٰی قَلْبِکَ بِاِذْنِ اللّٰہِ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَیْنَیَدَیْہِ وَھُدًی وَّبُشْرٰی لِلْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ۔ … … کِتَابَ اللّٰہِ وَرَائَ ظُہُورِہِمْ کَأَ نَّہُمْ لَا یَعْلَمُونَ} ... Say, whoever is an enemy to Gabriel—for indeed, he has brought it [the Qur'an] down upon your heart by permission of Allah, confirming that which was before it and as guidance and good tidings for the believers. ... They threw the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know. So at that time, these people returned with double wrath.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Jews came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Abu al-Qasim! We will ask you about five things; if you answer them, we will recognize that you are a true Prophet and we will follow you. You took from them a pledge just as Yaqub (peace be upon him) took a pledge from his sons, when they said that Allah Almighty is a witness over what we say. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Present your questions.
(1) They said: Tell us the sign of a Prophet. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The eyes of a Prophet sleep, but his heart does not sleep.
(2) They said: Tell us how male and female are created? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The fluids of man and woman mix; when the man’s fluid prevails over the woman’s, a male is born, and when the woman’s fluid prevails, a female is born.
(3) They said: Tell us what Yaqub (peace be upon him) made unlawful for himself? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He suffered from sciatica, and only the milk of she-camels suited him, so when he recovered, he made the meat of camels unlawful for himself. They said: You have spoken the truth.
(4) Well then, tell us what is this thunder? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is an angel among the angels of Allah Almighty, who is in charge of the clouds, or in the hand of this angel is a whip of fire, with which he drives the clouds wherever Allah Almighty commands. They said: What is this sound that is heard? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is the sound of that whip. They said: You have spoken the truth.
(5) They said: One question remains; if you answer it, we will pledge allegiance to you. It is that for every Prophet there is an angel appointed who brings him goodness, i.e., revelation. Tell us, who is your angel companion? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is Jibril (peace be upon him). This time they said: Jibril? He brings war, fighting, and punishment; he is our enemy. If you had said Mika’il, who descends with mercy, vegetation, and rain, then it would have been acceptable. At that moment, Allah Almighty revealed this verse: {Say, whoever is an enemy to Jibril—for indeed, he has brought it down upon your heart by Allah’s permission, confirming what was before it and as guidance and glad tidings for the believers.} (Surah al-Baqarah: 97)
