Hadith 8453
. (Second chain) Zar says: Sayyiduna Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me: How many verses of Surah Al-Ahzab do you recite? I said: Seventy-three verses. He said: That's all? I had seen this Surah when it was equal to Surah Al-Baqarah. We also used to recite this verse in it: "Al-shaykhu wa al-shaykhatu idha zanaya farjumuhuma al-battata nakalan min Allah, wallahu 'azizun hakim." ... When an old man and an old woman (that is, a married man and woman) commit adultery, then stone them both to death; this is a definite command and a punishment from Allah, and Allah is All-Knowing, Wise.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), he asked: How many verses do you count in Surah Al-Ahzab? I (Zirr bin Hubaysh) said: About seventy-six or seventy-seven verses. He said: I recited this Surah to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and it was as long as Surah Al-Baqarah or even longer, and it also contained the verse of stoning.

Hadith 8454
Kathir bin Salt says: Sayyiduna Ibn ‘As (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) were writing the Mushaf. When they reached this verse, Sayyiduna Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recite this verse as well: "Al-shaykhu wa al-shaykhatu idha zanaya farjumuhuma al-battah." Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When this verse was revealed, I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Please have this verse written for me, but it seemed that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked this. Then Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you not see that when an old man is not married, he is flogged for committing adultery, and when a married young man commits adultery, he is stoned?
Hadith 8455
Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The verse of stoning and the verse establishing fosterage by ten sucklings for an adult man were written on a paper and kept under my bed in my house. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill and we became occupied with him, an animal entered and ate that paper.

Sayyiduna Abu Waqqad Al-Laithi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we used to come to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and whenever a command was revealed to him, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would explain it to us. One day, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: Indeed, Allah Almighty has said: "Verily, We have sent down wealth for the establishment of prayer and the giving of zakat. If the son of Adam had a valley (full of wealth), he would love that there be a second one for him; and if he had two valleys, he would love that there be a third for him. Nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust. Then Allah accepts the repentance of whoever turns to Him in repentance." ... Indeed, We have sent down wealth for establishing prayer and giving zakat. If the son of Adam has one valley, he desires to have a second; if he has two valleys, he desires to have a third. In reality, nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust. Then Allah accepts the repentance of whoever turns to Him in repentance.
Hadith 8458
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: In the blessed era of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to recite these verses: {لَوْ کَانَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِیَانِ مِنْ ذَہَبٍ وَفِضَّۃٍ لَابْتَغٰی إِلَیْہِمَا آخَرَ۔ وَلَا یَمْلَأُ بَطْنَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ۔ وَیَتُوبُ اللّٰہُ عَلٰی مَنْ تَابَ} If the son of Adam possesses two valleys of gold and silver, he will seek a third one; nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust, and whoever turns to Allah in repentance, Allah accepts his repentance.
Hadith 8459
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked a question. You (may Allah be pleased with him) sometimes looked at his head and sometimes at his feet to see if there was any sign of poverty on him. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: How much wealth do you have? He said: Forty camels. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth: {لَوْ کَانَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِیَانِ مِنْ ذَہَبٍ لَابْتَغٰی الثَّالِثَ، وَلَا یَمْلَأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ، وَیَتُوبُ اللّٰہُ عَلٰی مَنْ تَابَ} … If the son of Adam had two valleys of gold, he would seek a third; nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust, and whoever repents to Allah, Allah accepts his repentance. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: What is this? I said: Yes, Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) taught me in this way. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by us and went to Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him: What does this Ibn Abbas say? He replied: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me these verses in this way. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then should I keep them as they are? So he kept them as they were.
Hadith 8460
. Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was never as grieved as he was over the army of the reciters. Regarding them, these verses were revealed: {بَلِّغُوا قَوْمَنَا عَنَّا أَ نَّا قَدْ رَضِینَا وَرَضِیَ عَنَّا} … Convey this message to our people that we are pleased with Allah and He is pleased with us. Someone asked Sufyan: About whom were these verses revealed? He said: They were revealed about the people of Bi’r Ma‘unah.
. (Second chain) Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We used to recite in the Qur’an: {بَلِّغُوا عَنَّا قَوْمَنَا وَإِنَّا قَدْ لَقِینَا رَبَّنَا فَرَضِیَ عَنَّا وَأَ رْضَانَا} … Convey this message to our people from us that we have met our Lord, so He is pleased with us and He has made us pleased. Then these verses were abrogated.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever speaks about the Noble Qur’an without knowledge, let him prepare his abode in the Hellfire.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these verses: He it is Who has sent down to you the Book; in it are verses that are clear and precise—they are the foundation of the Book—and others are ambiguous. As for those in whose hearts is deviation, they follow that which is ambiguous from it, seeking discord and seeking its interpretation. But no one knows its interpretation except Allah. And those firm in knowledge say: "We believe in it; all is from our Lord." And none take heed except those of understanding. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you see those who argue about the Qur'an, they are the very people who cause discord, about whom Allah Almighty has said to beware of them.
