Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that in every month of Ramadan, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would present the Noble Qur’an to Jibreel (peace be upon him). Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the morning after that night, he would be more generous than even the swift wind. Whatever was asked from him, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would grant it. When that month of Ramadan came in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, in that month the Qur’an was presented twice.

(Second chain) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Which of the two recitations do you consider to be the first? They said: The recitation of Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him)? He said: Rather, this is the last. Every year the Noble Qur’an was presented to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once. The year in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, it was presented twice. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) was present at the time of this presentation, so he knew which part of the Noble Qur’an was abrogated and which was changed.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: I asked: Out of the two recitations, which was the last recitation, that of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) or that of Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him)? Mujahid says: We said: The last one is that of Sayyiduna Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: No, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to present the Qur’an to Jibreel (peace be upon him) every year, but in the year in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, he presented the Qur’an to him twice, and the last recitation was that of Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him).
