بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الْوَعِيدِ الشَّدِيدِ لِمَنْ نَسِيَ الْقُرْآنَ أوْ بَعْضَهُ بَعْدَ حِفْظِهِ أَوْ نَرَى بِقَرَاء تِهِ أَوْ نَاكُلَ بِه أَولَمْ يَعْمَلْ بِمَا فِيهِ
Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding the Severe Threat for One Who Forgets the Qur’an or Part of It After Memorizing, or Shows Off with Its Recitation, or Eats with It, or Does Not Act Upon It
Hadith 8394
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيَقْرَأَنَّ الْقُرْآنَ أَقْوَامٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الْإِسْلَامِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Some people from my Ummah will certainly recite the Noble Qur’an, but they will exit from Islam just as an arrow passes through its prey.
Hadith 8395
عَنْ بَشِيرِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الْخَوْلَانِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَكُونُ خَلَفٌ مِنْ بَعْدِ سِتِّينَ سَنَةً أَضَاعُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَاتَّبَعُوا الشَّهَوَاتِ فَسَوْفَ يَلْقَوْنَ غَيًّا [سورة مريم: ٥٩] ثُمَّ خَلَفٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يَعْدُو تَرَاقِيَهُمْ وَيَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ ثَلَاثَةٌ مُؤْمِنٌ وَمُنَافِقٌ وَفَاجِرٌ قَالَ بَشِيرُ فَقُلْتُ لِلْوَلِيدِ مَا هَؤُلَاءِ الثَّلَاثَةُ فَقَالَ الْمُنَافِقُ كَافِرٌ بِهِ وَالْفَاجِرُ يَتَأَكَّلُ بِهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُ يُؤْمِنُ بِهِ
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: After sixty years, such incompetent people will emerge who will neglect the prayers and follow their desires. Allah the Exalted says: {اَضَاعُوا الصَّلَاۃَ وَاتَّبَعُوا الشَّہَوَاتِ فسَوْفَ یُلْقَوْنَ غَیًّا} … Then there succeeded them successors who neglected prayer and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil. Then after them will come incompetent ones, who will recite the Noble Qur'an, but it will not go below their collarbones. There are three types of people who recite the Noble Qur'an: the believer, the hypocrite, and the wicked. The narrator Basheer said: I asked Waleed: Who are these three people? He said: The hypocrite is actually a denier of the Noble Qur'an, the wicked one eats through it, and the believer brings faith upon it.
Hadith 8396
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَامَ تَبُوكَ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ وَهُوَ مُسْنِدٌ ظَهْرَهُ إِلَى نَخْلَةٍ فَقَالَ وَإِنَّ مِنْ شَرِّ النَّاسِ رَجُلًا فَاجِرًا جَرِيئًا يَقْرَأُ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَلَا يَدْعُو إِلَى شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people in the year of Tabuk and said, while he (peace be upon him) was leaning against a date-palm tree: The worst among the people is the one who is wicked and bold, who recites the Book of Allah Almighty, but does not invite towards anything from it.
Hadith 8397
عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ مَرَّ بِرَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ عَلَى قَوْمٍ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ سَأَلَ فَقَالَ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ فَلْيَسْأَلِ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى بِهِ فَإِنَّهُ سَيَجِيءُ قَوْمٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ يَسْأَلُونَ النَّاسَ بِهِ
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by a man who was reciting the Noble Qur’an to the people. When he finished, he asked the people for something. Upon seeing this situation, they said: "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." Verily, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever recites the Noble Qur’an, let him ask Allah Almighty through it. Soon there will come people who will recite the Noble Qur’an, but will ask the people through it."
Hadith 8398
عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ شِبْلٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا بِهِ وَلَا تَسْتَكْثِرُوا بِهِ وَلَا تَجُفُّوا عَنْهُ وَلَا تَغْلُوا فِيهِ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Shibl Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite the Noble Qur'an, do not make it a means of livelihood, do not amass abundant wealth through it, do not become hard-hearted regarding it, and do not be excessive or harsh in its matters.
Hadith 8399
عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَكْثَرُ مُنَافِقِي أُمَّتِي قُرَّاؤُهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Most of the hypocrites of my Ummah will be among the reciters (Qurra).
Hadith 8400
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلُهُ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrated a similar hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
