It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that mention was made before her of those people who recite the Holy Qur’an once or twice in a single night. She said about them: Their recitation is like not reciting at all. I used to spend the whole night in prayer with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); he would recite Surah Al-Baqarah, Surah Aal-e-Imran, and Surah An-Nisa, and whenever he recited a verse about fear, he would supplicate to Allah Almighty and seek refuge, and if he passed by a verse of glad tidings, he would supplicate to Allah Almighty and humbly request before Him.

It is narrated from Ibn Abi Mulaykah that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about by one of his wives—I think she was Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her)—regarding the recitation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: "You do not have the strength for that manner of recitation." Then she said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite slowly and distinctly: {اَلْحَمْدُلِلّٰہِرَبِّالْعَالَمِینَ۔اَلرَّحْمٰنِالرَّحِیمِ}.

It is narrated from Muawiyah bin Qurrah (may Allah have mercy on him) that I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) stating that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah Al-Fath during his journey in the year of the conquest of Makkah, and in another narration it is mentioned: Surah Al-Fath was revealed when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey, so he recited it on his mount and, reciting in a loud voice, he turned his voice in his throat. Then Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: If I did not fear that people would gather around me, I would have demonstrated for you the recitation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Shababa and Abu Talib bin Jaban al-Qari, may Allah have mercy on them both, narrate that Shuba narrated to us, he from Muawiyah bin Qurrah, may Allah have mercy on him, he from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal, may Allah be pleased with him, and he from the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, narrates similar to the above hadith. The words in Ibn Jaban’s narration are: "Aa, Aa," meaning he would elongate the letter Alif while reciting.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting on the day of the conquest of Makkah. If I had not feared that people would crowd around me, I would have imitated for you the recitation of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) had recited Surah Al-Fath. Muawiyah bin Qurrah said: If I had not feared that people would gather around me, I would have imitated for you the Surah as described by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him), how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited it. Ghundar, the narrator, said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) recited with a vibrating tone.
