Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever uncovers the curtain and looks into someone’s house without permission, he has committed a crime equivalent to the legal limit; it was not lawful for him to do so. And if someone were to gouge out his eye, then his eye would be wasted and without compensation. If a person passes by a door that has no curtain and sees something private in the house, he will not be blamed for the mistake; rather, in such a case, the mistake will be attributed to the people of the house.

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man looked through the curtain hanging at the chamber of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet had a comb in his hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I had known that he was looking at me, I would have come close and struck his eye with this comb. Permission to enter has been legislated because of the (harm of) looking.
