Hadith 8241
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلْ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ وَلْيَقُلْ مَنْ حَوْلَهُ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ وَلْيَقُلْ هُوَ يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any of you sneezes, he should say: "Alhamdulillahi Rabbil 'Alamin" (All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds), and those around him should say: "Yarhamukallah" (May Allah have mercy on you), and then the one who sneezed should say: "Yahdikumullah wa yuslihu balakum" (May Allah guide you and set your affairs right).
Hadith 8242
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا ذِي الْجَنَاحَيْنِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا عَطَسَ حَمِدَ اللَّهَ فَيُقَالُ لَهُ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ فَيَقُولُ يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ
Dhul-Janahain Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sneezed and said "Alhamdulillah," it would be said to him in reply: "Yarhamukallah." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "Yahdikumullah wa yuslihu balakum" (May Allah guide you and set your condition right).
Hadith 8243
عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلْ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ وَلْيَقُلِ الَّذِي يَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِ رَحِمَكَ اللَّهُ وَلْيَقُلْ هُوَ يَهْدِيكَ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكَ قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you sneezes and says "Alhamdulillah ‘ala kulli hal" (All praise is due to Allah in every circumstance), then the one who replies to him should say: "Yarhamukallah" (May Allah have mercy on you), and in response to this, the one who sneezed should then say: (May Allah guide you and rectify your condition).
Hadith 8244
عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ آلِ خَالِدِ بْنِ عُرْفُطَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ آخَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ سَالِمِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فِي سَفَرٍ فَعَطَسَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَقَالَ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى أُمِّكَ ثُمَّ سَارَ فَقَالَ لَعَلَّكَ وَجَدْتَ فِي نَفْسِكَ قَالَ مَا أَرَدْتُ أَنْ تَذْكُرَ أُمِّي قَالَ لَمْ أَسْتَطِعْ إِلَّا أَنْ أَقُولَهَا كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ فَعَطَسَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ فَقَالَ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى أُمِّكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلْ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ أَوْ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ وَلْيُقَلْ لَهُ يَرْحَمُكُمُ اللَّهُ أَوْ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ شَكَّ يَحْيَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَلْيَقُلْ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لِي وَلَكُمْ
Hilal bin Yasaf narrates from a man of the family of Khalid bin Urfutah, who says: I was on a journey with Sayyiduna Salim bin Ubaid. A man sneezed and said, "As-Salamu Alaikum." Salim bin Ubaid replied to him, "Peace be upon you and your mother." Then he walked on and said to the one who sneezed, "Perhaps you are upset?" He replied, "I did not intend for you to mention my mother here (what you did was inappropriate)." He said, "But there was no other way except to say this, because I was on a journey with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a man sneezed and said, 'As-Salamu Alaikum,' and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied to him, 'Peace be upon you and your mother.' Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any of you sneezes, he should say, 'Alhamdulillah ala kulli hal' or 'Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alamin.' The listener should reply to him, 'Yarhamukallah,' and the one who sneezed should then say, 'Yaghfirullahu li wa lakum' (May Allah forgive me and you)."
Hadith 8245
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ عَطَسَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَا أَقُولُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ قُلْ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ قَالَ الْقَوْمُ مَا نَقُولُ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ قُولُوا لَهُ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ قَالَ مَا أَقُولُ لَهُمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ قُلْ لَهُمْ يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that a man sneezed in the presence of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! What should I say? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say "Alhamdulillah" (All praise is due to Allah). The people said: O Messenger of Allah! What should we say now? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should say "Yarhamukallah" (May Allah have mercy on you). The one who sneezed said: O Messenger of Allah! What should I say for them now? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should say: "Yahdikumullah wa yuslihu balakum" (May Allah guide you and set your affairs right).
Hadith 8246
عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَتِ الْيَهُودُ يَتَعَاطَسُونَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجَاءَ أَنْ يَقُولَ لَهُمْ يَرْحَمُكُمُ اللَّهُ فَكَانَ يَقُولُ لَهُمْ يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ
Syedna Abu Musa Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Jews used to sneeze in the presence of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, hoping that he would say to them, "Yarhamukumullah" (May Allah have mercy on you). But the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would reply to them: "Yahdikumullah wa yuslihu balakum" (May Allah guide you and set your affairs right).
Hadith 8247
عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَعَطَسَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ عَطَسَ أُخْرَى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الرَّجُلُ مَزْكُومٌ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah, when a man sneezed and said (Alhamdulillah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “Yarhamukallah (may Allah have mercy on you).” Then he sneezed a second time, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “This man has a cold.”
