Hadith 8198
عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيِّرُوا الشَّيْبَ وَلَا تَشَبَّهُوا بِالْيَهُودِ
Sayyiduna Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Change the whiteness of your hair and do not imitate the Jews.
Hadith 8199
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيِّرُوا الشَّيْبَ وَلَا تَشَبَّهُوا بِالْيَهُودِ وَلَا بِالنَّصَارَى
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Change the white hairs and do not imitate the Jews and Christians.
Hadith 8200
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى لَا يَصْبُغُونَ فَخَالِفُوهُمْ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَالْأَمْرُ بِالْأَصْبَاغِ فَأَحْلَكُهَا أَحَبُّ إِلَيْنَا قَالَ مَعْمَرٌ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَكَانَ الزُّهْرِيُّ يَخْضِبُ بِالسَّوَادِ (مسند أحمد:)
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Jews and Christians do not dye their hair, so you should oppose them." Imam Zuhri said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the use of dye, and the color I like most is deep black." Imam Zuhri himself used to apply black dye.
Hadith 8201
عَنْ أَبِي رِمْثَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْضِبُ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ وَكَانَ شَعْرُهُ يَبْلُغُ كَتِفَيْهِ أَوْ مَنْكِبَيْهِ
Sayyiduna Abu Rimthah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to dye his hair with henna and katam (a plant), and his hair would reach his shoulders.
Hadith 8202
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا عَنْ أَبِي رِمْثَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ حَجَجْتُ فَرَأَيْتُ رَجُلًا جَالِسًا فِي ظِلِّ الْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ أَبِي تَدْرِي مَنْ هَذَا هَذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ إِذَا رَجُلٌ ذُو وَفْرَةٍ بِهِ رَدْعٌ وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ رِدْعٌ مِنْ حِنَّاءٍ وَعَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَانِ أَخْضَرَانِ زَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ وَرَأَيْتُ الشَّيْبَ أَحْمَرَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rimtha (may Allah be pleased with him) that I performed Hajj and saw a man in the shade of the Ka'bah. My father said to me: Do you know who this man is? This is the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When we reached him, we saw that the hair of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was up to his ears and there were traces of henna on his hair, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing two green sheets. I saw that his white hair appeared red due to the henna.
Hadith 8203
عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فَأَخْرَجَتْ إِلَيْنَا شَعْرًا مِنْ شَعْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَخْضُوبًا بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ
Usman bin Abdullah says: I went to Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she brought out some hair of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); it was dyed with henna and katam.
Hadith 8204
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ أَحْسَنَ مَا غُيِّرَ بِهِ هَذَا الشَّيْبُ الْحِنَّاءُ وَالْكَتَمُ
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best thing with which you can change these white hairs is henna and katam.
Hadith 8205
عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْغِفَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَأَخِي رَافِعُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَأَنَا مَخْضُوبٌ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَأَخِي مَخْضُوبٌ بِالصُّفْرَةِ فَقَالَ لِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ هَذَا خِضَابُ الْإِسْلَامِ وَقَالَ لِأَخِي رَافِعٍ هَذَا خِضَابُ الْإِيمَانِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hakam bin Amr Ghafari, may Allah be pleased with him, who says: My brother Rafi’ bin Amr and I went to the Commander of the Faithful, Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him. I had dyed my hair with henna and my brother had dyed his hair with a yellow color. Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said to me: This is the Islamic color, and to my brother Rafi’, he said: This is the color of faith.
Hadith 8206
عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سُئِلَ أَنَسٌ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ هَلْ خَضَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَرَ مِنَ الشَّيْبِ إِلَّا نَحْوًا مِنْ سَبْعَ عَشْرَةَ أَوْ عِشْرِينَ شَعْرَةً فِي مُقَدَّمِ لِحْيَتِهِ وَقَالَ إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَشِنْ بِالشَّيْبِ فَقِيلَ لِأَنَسٍ أَشَيْنٌ هُوَ قَالَ كُلُّكُمْ يَكْرَهُهُ وَلَكِنْ خَضَبَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ وَخَضَبَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ بِالْحِنَّاءِ
Humaid says that it was asked from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) whether the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to dye his hair. He said: In the beginning of his blessed beard, not more than seventeen or twenty white hairs could be seen; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained free from the defect of old age’s white hair. Someone asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) whether white hair of old age is a defect. He said: You simply do not like it, however, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to dye his hair with henna and katam, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to dye his hair with henna.
Hadith 8207
عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ شَهِدَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمَنْحَرِ وَرَجُلًا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ وَهُوَ يَقْسِمُ أَضَاحِيَّ فَلَمْ يُصِبْهُ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ وَلَا صَاحِبَهُ فَحَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأْسَهُ فِي ثَوْبِهِ فَأَعْطَاهُ فَقَسَمَ مِنْهُ عَلَى رِجَالٍ وَقَلَّمَ أَظْفَارَهُ فَأَعْطَاهُ صَاحِبَهُ قَالَ فَإِنَّهُ لَعِنْدَنَا مَخْضُوبٌ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ يَعْنِي شَعْرَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid bin Abdur-Rabah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I was present with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the place of sacrifice, and another man from the Quraysh was also with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was distributing the sacrificial animals; neither did he (peace and blessings be upon him) take a sacrificial animal nor did that man take one. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had his blessed head shaved and the hair was collected in a cloth. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave those hairs to his companion, who distributed them among some people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also had his nails trimmed and gave them to his companion. Those blessed hairs of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) are still with us; they are dyed with henna and katam.
Hadith 8208
عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَعْنِي طَارِقَ بْنَ أَشْيَمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ كَانَ خِضَابُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْوَرْسَ وَالزَّعْفَرَانَ
Syedna Abu Malik Ashja'i (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that in the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), we used to have dye made from wars plant and saffron.
Hadith 8209
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ غُرَابٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا عَنْ بُنَانَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ مَا خَضَبَ عُثْمَانُ قَطُّ تَعْنِي عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
It is not stated that Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) ever dyed his hair.
Hadith 8210
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَخْضِبْ قَطُّ إِنَّمَا كَانَ الْبَيَاضُ فِي مُقَدَّمِ لِحْيَتِهِ وَفِي الْعَنْفَقَةِ وَفِي الرَّأْسِ وَفِي الصُّدْغَيْنِ شَيْئًا لَا يُكَادُ يُرَى وَإِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ خَضَبَ بِالْحِنَّاءِ
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never applied dye. There were only a few white hairs in the front part of his blessed beard, in the small beard, and at the temples, so few that even seeing them was difficult. However, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to dye with henna.
