It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not pluck out the white hairs of old age, for they are the light of a Muslim. Whoever among the Muslims grows old in Islam, a good deed is written for him, his rank is elevated, or his sin is forgiven.

(Second chain) There is a similar narration, except that its final words are as follows: And through it, evil is erased. Also, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: He is not one of us who does not respect our elders and does not show mercy to our young ones.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) had approximately twenty white hairs.

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that there were barely twenty white hairs in the blessed head and beard of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to apply a mixture of henna and katam (a plant used as a black dye), and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used only henna to dye his hair.

Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin ‘Absah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever grows old in the way of Allah, then this whiteness of old age will become light for him on the Day of Resurrection.
