Sayyiduna Walid bin Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Makkah, the people of Makkah began bringing their children to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would place his hand on their heads and pray for them. I was also brought, and I had been scented with perfume (khaluq). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not place his hand on my head, because my mother had applied khaluq perfume on me. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refrained and did not touch me.

Abu Habibah narrates from that man who had the honor of being a companion for four years, he says: I had some work, so I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw that I had applied khaluq fragrance. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Go and wash it off. So I washed it off and then returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said: Go and wash it off and come back. So this time I went and descended into a well, took something made of flax, and wherever the khaluq was applied, I cleaned it with that, and then I returned to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Now state your need.

(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I performed ghusl (ritual bath) and applied khuluq (a type of perfume). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pass his hand over our faces. When he came near me, he did not let his hand touch the khuluq. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished, he said: O Ya'la! Why have you applied this khuluq? Have you gotten married? I replied: No, I have not gotten married. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then go and wash it off. So I went to a well, entered it, and scrubbed off the khuluq with clay until its traces disappeared. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me, he said: Ya'la has returned with the best religion, and the sky has become illuminated by his repentance (meaning the angels of the sky have become happy).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ya’la bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: When we were young, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pass his hand over our faces at the time of prayer and would supplicate for blessings for us. One day, he came and passed his hand over the faces of the children who were to my right and left, but left me out. The reason was that I had gone to my sister’s house and she had applied yellow color to me. Someone said to me: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left your face because this color is on your face. So I went to a well, descended into it, and bathed. Then I attended the next prayer, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me, passed his hand over my face, supplicated for blessings, and said: “Ya’la has returned with the best religion, and the sky has become brightened by his repentance (meaning the angels of the sky have rejoiced).”
