Zumrah bin Saeed narrates from his grandmother, and she from a woman of her family, who had prayed in the direction of both Qiblahs with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. She says: The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came to me and said: "Apply dye to your hands, for women abandon henna until their hands begin to resemble those of men." After this command, that woman never abandoned henna, until she met Allah, and she would still apply henna even when she was eighty years old.
Hadith 8151
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that a woman stretched out her hand towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from behind a veil, but the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew his hand and said: I do not know whether this is the hand of a man or a woman. She said: Yes, I am a woman. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you are a woman, you should have changed the color of your nails with henna.
Hadith 8152
Karimah bint Hammam says: I entered the Sacred Mosque and found Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) alone. A woman asked her: O Mother of the Believers! What is your opinion about henna? She said: My beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked its color, but disliked its smell. However, it is not forbidden; observe it either in a state of purity or after the completion of menstruation.
Hadith 8153
(Second chain) Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O group of women! Refrain from applying saffron to your faces. At that moment, a woman asked her about henna. She said: There is no harm in it, but I do not like it, because my beloved, peace and blessings be upon him, disliked its smell.
Hadith 8154
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the wife of Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) used to apply henna and perfume, but then she abandoned these things. She came to me, so I asked her: Is your husband present at home or is he absent? She said: He is present, but as if he is absent. I said: What do you mean? What are you trying to say? She said: Uthman neither desires the world nor has any inclination towards women. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, I told him about this matter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O Uthman! Do you have faith in the same way as we have faith? He said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If this is the case, then there is no example or model for you among us, so do as we do.
