Hadith 8111
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me a garment of silk, which Firoz had gifted to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I tied it as a lower garment, and it was quite long and wide, so I dragged it on the ground and also wore the upper sheet, thus covering my body. But the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held me by my shoulder and said: O Abdullah! Lift your lower garment up, because the portion from the ankles to the ground will be in the Fire. Abdullah bin Muhammad says: After that, I never saw any person who was more careful than Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) in keeping his clothes gathered up.
Hadith 8112
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) gave me a Coptic sheet and gave Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) a striped silk garment. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) saw me that I had let the sheet hang below my ankles. He came, held my shoulder, and said: O Ibn Umar! That part of the garment which touches the ground will go to Hell. Abdullah bin Muhammad says: I saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) after that keeping his lower garment up to half of his shin.
Hadith 8113
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever drags his lower garment below the ankles out of arrogance, Allah Almighty will not look at him. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw my lower garment, which was trailing on the ground because it was new. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Who is this? I said: It is I, Abdullah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you are Abdullah, then raise your lower garment. So I raised it above the ankles, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Raise it more. So I raised it further until it reached halfway up the shin. Then he turned to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Whoever drags his garment on the ground out of arrogance, Allah Almighty will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sometimes my lower garment slips down a little? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You are not among them.
Hadith 8114
Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The lower garment of a believer should be up to the calf of his leg, or he may make it up to the middle of the calf, otherwise up to the ankles; whatever is below that is in the Fire.
Hadith 8115
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he was asked about the lower garment (tehband), he said to the questioner: "You have indeed asked a well-informed person. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The lower garment of a believer should reach to the middle of his shin, and there is no sin or harm if it is between the middle of the shin and the ankles. However, the part of the lower garment that is below the ankles will be in the Fire, and Allah Almighty will not look at the one who drags his lower garment out of pride."
Hadith 8116
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The lower garment is up to the middle of the shin. But when he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw that this command was difficult for the Muslims, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It can be let down to the ankles, but there is no good in letting it go below that.
Hadith 8117
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whatever part of the garment hangs below the ankles, that portion will be in the Fire.
Hadith 8118
Abu Tamimah Hajimi narrated from a man of his tribe, who said: I asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about the lower garment and said: Up to where should I wear it? He raised his garment up to the bone of his shin and said: Tie your izar up to here. If you refuse this, then keep it a little below this. If you refuse even this, then keep it above the ankles, because Allah does not like the arrogant and boastful person. Then I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about righteousness.
Hadith 8119
Narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Fulan Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that he was walking in such a state that his lower garment (izar) was hanging below his ankles, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) met him, in such a state that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was holding his forehead and saying: O Allah! I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, and the son of Your maidservant. Amr says: I said, O Messenger of Allah! My shins are thin. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Amr! Indeed, Allah has created everything beautifully. O Amr! Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed the four fingers of his right hand below Amr’s knee and said: This is the place of the izar. Then he lifted them and placed four fingers (distance) below the previous ones and said: This is the place of the izar. Then he lifted them and placed them below the second four fingers and said: Amr! This is the place of the izar.
Hadith 8120
Shureid bin Suwaid (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man from Banu Thaqif who was dragging his lower garment. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) quickly walked behind him until he caught hold of his garment and said: "Raise your lower garment." The man lifted his garment from his knees and said: "O Messenger of Allah! My feet are large and my knees knock together." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every creature created by Allah is beautiful and good." After that, whenever that man was seen, his lower garment would be up to half of his shins, and this remained his condition until his death.
Hadith 8121
Sayyiduna Ubaidah bin Khalaf narrates: I came to Madinah when I was still a young man. I was wearing a striped lower garment which was dragging on the ground. A man caught up with me and struck me with a stick, saying, "If you raise this garment, it will last longer for you and will also be cleaner." I turned around and saw that it was the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I said, "O Messenger of Allah! This is a black and white striped sheet." He said, "Even though it is a black and white sheet, is there not the best example for you in me?" I looked at his lower garment and it was above the ankles and below the calf muscle.
Hadith 8122
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held my calf muscle and said, "This is the place to tie the lower garment. If you object to this, then let it be a little below it, and if you object to even that, then there is no allowance for keeping the lower garment below the ankles."
