Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) called him and said: “Which tribe are you from?” He replied: “From Banu Bakr.” He said: “Do you wish that Allah Almighty looks at you on the Day of Resurrection?” He replied: “Yes, of course.” He said: “Then raise your lower garment, for I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever drags his lower garment on the ground out of pride, Allah Almighty will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection.”

Hasan says: Once, Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) was conversing with his companions when suddenly a man came to Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was in his gathering. He was wearing a cloak and was walking arrogantly in it, until he stopped by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O Abu Hurairah! What is your verdict regarding this garment of mine? Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his head and said: My truthful and trusted friend, Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him), told me that before you, a man was walking arrogantly in two garments when Allah Almighty became angry with him and commanded the earth, so it swallowed him. By the One in whose hand is my soul! He will continue to sink in the earth until the Day of Resurrection. O man, you too will walk until the Day of Resurrection.

The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: Go and perform ablution. So he went and performed ablution and came back, but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, again said: Go and perform ablution again. So he went and performed ablution and came back. The people asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is it that you have ordered him to perform ablution?
