بَابُ مَا جَاءَ مِنْ إِسْتِحْبَابِ اللُّبَاسِ الجميل وَالتَّوَاضُع فِيهِ
Chapter on the Recommendation of Beautiful Clothing and Humility in It
Hadith 8096
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَدْخُلُ النَّارَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ إِيمَانٍ وَلَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَيُعْجِبُنِي أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبِي غَسِيلًا وَرَأْسِي دَهِينًا وَشِرَاكُ نَعْلِي جَدِيدًا وَذَكَرَ أَشْيَاءَ حَتَّى ذَكَرَ عِلَاقَةَ سَوْطِهِ أَفَمِنَ الْكِبْرِ ذَاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ لَا ذَاكَ الْجَمَالُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَلَكِنَّ الْكِبْرَ مَنْ سَفِهَ الْحَقَّ وَازْدَرَى النَّاسَ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That person will not enter Hell in whose heart there is faith equal to a grain, and that person will not enter Paradise in whose heart there is arrogance equal to a grain. A man said: O Messenger of Allah! I like that my clothes are clean, my hair is oiled, the strap of my shoe is new. He mentioned more things, even mentioning the handle of his whip. O Messenger of Allah! Are these things included in arrogance? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, this is beauty and elegance, and indeed Allah Himself is Beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance is that a person rejects the truth and considers people inferior.
Hadith 8097
عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُعَاذِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ تَرَكَ اللِّبَاسَ وَهُوَ يَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهِ تَوَاضُعًا لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى دَعَاهُ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى رُءُوسِ الْخَلَائِقِ حَتَّى يُخَيِّرَهُ فِي حُلَلِ الْإِيمَانِ أَيَّهَا شَاءَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Anas al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever, out of humility before Allah Almighty, leaves off (splendid) clothing despite having the ability to wear it, Allah Almighty will call him before the creation and will give him the choice to wear whichever of the garments of faith he wishes.
