بَابُ مَنْعِ النِّسَاءِ مِنَ التَّحَلَّى بِالذَّهَبِ وَجَوَارِهِ لَهُنَّ بِالْفِضَّةِ
Chapter on Preventing Women from Wearing Gold Jewelry and Permitting Silver for Them
Hadith 7989
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كُنْتُ قَاعِدًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ طَوْقٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ قَالَ طَوْقٌ مِنْ نَارٍ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ سِوَارَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ قَالَ سِوَارَانِ مِنْ نَارٍ قَالَتْ قُرْطَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ قَالَ قُرْطَانِ مِنْ نَارٍ قَالَ وَكَانَ عَلَيْهَا سِوَارٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَرَمَتْ بِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ إِحْدَانَا إِذَا لَمْ تَزَيَّنْ لِزَوْجِهَا صَلِفَتْ عِنْدَهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ مَا يَمْنَعُ إِحْدَاكُنَّ تَصْنَعُ قُرْطَيْنِ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ثُمَّ تُصَفِّرُهُمَا بِالزَّعْفَرَانِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: I was sitting with the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when a woman came and said: O Messenger of Allah! Is it permissible to make a necklace of gold? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: That would be a necklace of fire. She said: O Messenger of Allah! Is it permissible to wear two gold bangles? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Those would be two bangles of fire. She said: Are two gold earrings permissible? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Those would be two earrings of fire. She was wearing a gold bangle; upon hearing this, she threw it away and said: O Messenger of Allah! If any of us does not adorn herself for her husband, her value and importance decrease in his eyes. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: What prevents you from having two silver earrings made and coloring them with saffron?
Hadith 7990
عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ غَنْمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ تَحَلَّى أَوْ حُلِّيَ بِخَزِّ بَصِيصَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ كُوِيَ بِهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Ghanm (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever adorns himself with even a small amount of gold will be branded with it on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 7991
عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ جَعَلَتْ شَعَائِرَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِي رَقَبَتِهَا فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا فَقُلْتُ أَلَا تَنْظُرُ إِلَى زِينَتِهَا فَقَالَ عَنْ زِينَتِكِ أُعْرِضُ قَالَ زَعَمُوا أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَا ضَرَّ إِحْدَاكُنَّ لَوْ جَعَلَتْ خُرْصًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَتْهُ بِزَعْفَرَانٍ
Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I was wearing a gold chain around my neck when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and turned his face away from me. I said: Do you not see my adornment? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is from your adornment that I am turning away. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There will be no harm for you if you have a ring or bracelet made of silver and color it with saffron.
Hadith 7992
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ لَبِسْتُ قِلَادَةً فِيهَا شَعَرَاتٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ قَالَتْ فَرَآهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَعْرَضَ عَنِّي فَقَالَ مَا يُؤَمِّنُكِ أَنْ يُقَلِّدَكِ اللَّهُ مَكَانَهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شَعَرَاتٍ مِنْ نَارٍ قَالَتْ فَنَزَعْتُهَا
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I wore a necklace, in which there were strands of gold. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away after seeing it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What has made you feel secure from the fact that Allah Almighty may make you wear strands of fire in its place? She says: So I took it off.
Hadith 7993
عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ ابْنَةَ هُبَيْرَةَ دَخَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفِي يَدِهَا خَوَاتِيمُ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا الْفَتَخُ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَعُ يَدَهَا بِعُصَيَّةٍ مَعَهُ يَقُولُ لَهَا يَسُرُّكِ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ اللَّهُ فِي يَدِكِ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ نَارٍ فَأَتَتْ فَاطِمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فَشَكَتْ إِلَيْهَا مَا صَنَعَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ وَانْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَامَ خَلْفَ الْبَابِ وَكَانَ إِذَا اسْتَأْذَنَ قَامَ خَلْفَ الْبَابِ قَالَ فَقَالَتْ لَهَا فَاطِمَةُ انْظُرِي إِلَى هَذِهِ السِّلْسِلَةِ الَّتِي أَهْدَاهَا إِلَيَّ أَبُو حَسَنٍ قَالَ وَفِي يَدِهَا سِلْسِلَةٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا فَاطِمَةُ بِالْعَدْلِ أَنْ يَقُولَ النَّاسُ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَفِي يَدِكِ سِلْسِلَةٌ مِنْ نَارٍ ثُمَّ عَذَمَهَا عَذْمًا شَدِيدًا ثُمَّ خَرَجَ وَلَمْ يَقْعُدْ فَأَمَرَتْ بِالسِّلْسِلَةِ فَبِيعَتْ فَاشْتَرَتْ بِثَمَنِهَا عَبْدًا فَأَعْتَقَتْهُ فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ بِذَلِكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَبَّرَ وَقَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي نَجَّى فَاطِمَةَ مِنَ النَّارِ
Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the freed slave of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: The daughter of Hubayrah entered upon the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and in her hand were large gold rings. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck her hand with a stick and said: Do you like that Allah should put rings of fire on your hand? Then Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: She came to me and complained about what the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had done to her. I went with her to the house of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). (The narrator, Thawban, may Allah be pleased with him, says:) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood behind the door, and whenever he sought permission, he would stand behind the door. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to the daughter of Hubayrah: Look at this chain, Abu al-Hasan Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gave it to me. She had put a gold chain on her hand. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered and said: O Fatimah! Act justly. People will say that Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, is wearing a chain of fire on her hand. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke harshly to me and did not even sit down, and left. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) ordered that the chain be sold, and with its price a slave was bought and set free. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he said Allahu Akbar and said: All praise is due to Allah who saved Fatimah from the fire.
Hadith 7994
عَنْ أُمِّ الْكِرَامِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّهَا حَجَّتْ قَالَتْ فَلَقِيتُ امْرَأَةً بِمَكَّةَ كَثِيرَةَ الْحَشَمِ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِنَّ حُلِيٌّ إِلَّا الْفِضَّةُ فَقُلْتُ لَهَا مَا لِي لَا أَرَى عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْ حَشَمِكِ حُلِيًّا إِلَّا الْفِضَّةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ جَدِّي رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ عَلَيَّ قُرْطَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ شِهَابَانِ مِنْ نَارٍ فَنَحْنُ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنَّا يَلْبَسُ حُلِيًّا إِلَّا الْفِضَّةَ
It is narrated from Umm Karam, she says: I performed Hajj, and I met a woman who had a large number of servants. All the women assigned to serve her were wearing silver jewelry. I asked: What is the reason that every one of your servants is wearing silver jewelry? She said: My grandfather was with the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and I was with him as well. I was wearing two gold earrings. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: These are two coals of fire. Since then, every member of our household wears only silver jewelry.
Hadith 7995
عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ يَزِيدَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَمَعَ نِسَاءَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ لِلْبَيْعَةِ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ أَسْمَاءُ أَلَا تَحْسُرُ لَنَا عَنْ يَدِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ أُصَافِحُ النِّسَاءَ وَلَكِنْ آخُذُ عَلَيْهِنَّ وَفِي النِّسَاءِ خَالَةٌ لَهَا عَلَيْهَا قُلْبَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَخَوَاتِيمُ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا هَذِهِ هَلْ يَسُرُّكِ أَنْ يُحَلِّيَكِ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ جَمْرِ جَهَنَّمَ سِوَارَيْنِ وَخَوَاتِيمَ فَقَالَتْ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا خَالَتِي اطْرُحِي مَا عَلَيْكِ فَطَرَحَتْهُ فَحَدَّثَتْنِي أَسْمَاءُ وَاللَّهِ يَا بُنَيَّ لَقَدْ طَرَحَتْهُ فَمَا أَدْرِي مَنْ لَقَطَهُ مِنْ مَكَانِهِ وَلَا الْتَفَتَ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ إِلَيْهِ قَالَتْ أَسْمَاءُ فَقُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّ إِحْدَاهُنَّ تَصْلَفُ عِنْدَ زَوْجِهَا إِذَا لَمْ تُمَلَّحْ لَهُ أَوْ تَتَحَلَّى لَهُ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا عَلَى إِحْدَاكُنَّ أَنْ تَتَّخِذَ قُرْطَيْنِ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَتَتَّخِذَ لَهَا جُمَانَتَيْنِ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَتُدْرِجَهُ بَيْنَ أَنَامِلِهَا بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ زَعْفَرَانٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ كَالذَّهَبِ يَبْرُقُ
Sayyida Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered the Muslim women for the pledge of allegiance. Sayyida Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said to him: O Messenger of Allah! Please extend your blessed hand so that we may pledge allegiance. But the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I do not shake hands with women; I take their pledge without shaking hands. Among those women was her maternal aunt, who was wearing two gold bangles and two rings. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: O such-and-such woman! Would you like that on the Day of Resurrection Allah gives you bangles and rings of fire from Hell as adornment? She said: O Prophet of Allah! I seek refuge with Allah from that. Sayyida Asma says: I said: O aunt! Throw away what you are wearing, so she threw them away. Later, Sayyida Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O my dear son! That woman had thrown away that jewelry, but I do not know who picked it up from that place, and none of us even looked back at it. Then I said: O Messenger of Allah! If we do not adorn ourselves at all, our value decreases in the eyes of our husbands, so with what should we adorn ourselves, O Messenger of Allah? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no harm for you in having earrings made of silver and adorning yourselves with silver beads, and you may color them with saffron; it will shine just like gold.
Hadith 7996
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأُبَايِعَهُ فَدَنَوْتُ وَعَلَيَّ سِوَارَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَبَصُرَ بِبَصِيصِهِمَا فَقَالَ أَلْقِي السِّوَارَيْنِ يَا أَسْمَاءُ أَمَا تَخَافِينَ أَنْ يُسَوِّرَكِ اللَّهُ بِسِوَارٍ مِنْ نَارٍ قَالَتْ فَأَلْقَيْتُهُمَا فَمَا أَدْرِي مَنْ أَخَذَهُمَا
Sayyidah Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in order to pledge allegiance to him. When I approached, I was wearing two gold bangles. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), seeing their shine, said: "Remove these bangles, O Asma! Do you not fear that Allah Almighty may make you wear bangles of fire in exchange for them?" I took them off and threw them away, and I did not even know who picked them up.
Hadith 7997
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا أَنَّ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتَ يَزِيدَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا كَانَتْ تَخْدُمُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ فَبَيْنَمَا أَنَا عِنْدَهُ إِذْ جَاءَتْهُ خَالَتِي قَالَتْ فَجَعَلَتْ تُسَائِلُهُ وَعَلَيْهَا سِوَارَانِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيَسُرُّكِ أَنَّ عَلَيْكِ سِوَارَيْنِ مِنْ نَارٍ قَالَتْ قُلْتُ يَا خَالَتِي إِنَّمَا يَعْنِي سِوَارَيْكِ هَذَيْنِ قَالَتْ فَأَلْقَتْهُمَا قَالَتْ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُنَّ إِذَا لَمْ يَتَحَلَّيْنَ صَلِفْنَ عِنْدَ أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ أَمَا تَسْتَطِيعُ إِحْدَاكُنَّ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ طَوْقًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَجُمَانَةً مِنْ فِضَّةٍ ثُمَّ تُخَلِّقَهُ بِزَعْفَرَانٍ فَيَكُونُ كَأَنَّهُ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَإِنَّ مَنْ تَحَلَّى وَزْنَ عَيْنِ جَرَادَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ أَوْ جِرَّ بَصِيصَةٍ كُوِيَ بِهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyida Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) that she used to serve the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She says: Once I was with him when my maternal aunt came and began to ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) questions. She was wearing two gold bangles. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Do you like that two bangles of fire be put on you?" I said to my aunt: "That is, your two bangles will become of fire." She took them off and threw them away, and said: "Then if women do not adorn themselves, they do not remain attractive to their husbands." O Prophet of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and said: "Can you not make a necklace of silver, or a necklace made of pearls prepared from silver, then dye it with saffron? It will become like gold. Remember, whoever adorns herself with gold equal to the weight of a locust, or even wears a small amount of gold, will be branded with it on the Day of Resurrection."
Hadith 7998
عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتَ يَزِيدَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا حَدَّثَتْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ تَحَلَّتْ قِلَادَةً مِنْ ذَهَبٍ جُعِلَ فِي عُنُقِهَا مِثْلُهَا مِنَ النَّارِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَأَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ جَعَلَتْ فِي أُذُنِهَا خُرْصَةً مِنْ ذَهَبٍ جُعِلَ فِي أُذُنِهَا مِثْلُهَا مِنَ النَّارِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
Sayyidah Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Any woman who wears a gold necklace, on the Day of Resurrection a similar necklace of fire will be put around her neck, and any woman who puts a gold earring in her ear, on the Day of Resurrection a similar fire of Hell will be put in her ear.
Hadith 7999
عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يَصِحُّ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ شَيْءٌ وَلَا بَصِيصَةٌ
Sayyida Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No amount of gold is permissible, rather even the glitter of gold is not acceptable."
Hadith 8000
وَعَنْهَا أَيْضًا عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَخَالَتِي عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعَلَيْنَا أَسْوِرَةٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَقَالَ لَنَا أَتُعْطِيَانِ زَكَاتَهُ قَالَتْ فَقُلْنَا لَا قَالَ أَمَا تَخَافَانِ أَنْ يُسَوِّرَكُمَا اللَّهُ أَسْوِرَةً مِنْ نَارٍ أَدِّيَا زَكَاتَهُ
Lady Asma bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) says: My maternal aunt and I entered upon the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we were wearing gold bangles. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you pay zakat on them?" We said: "No." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you not fear that Allah Almighty may make you wear two bangles of fire in exchange for them? Pay their zakat."
Hadith 8001
عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ عَنِ امْرَأَتِهِ عَنْ أُخْتِ حُذَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ أَمَا لَكُنَّ فِي الْفِضَّةِ مَا تَحَلَّيْنَ أَمَا إِنَّهُ مَا مِنْكُنَّ مِنِ امْرَأَةٍ تَلْبَسُ ذَهَبًا تُظْهِرُهُ إِلَّا عُذِّبَتْ بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
It is narrated from the sister of Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him), she says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us and said: O group of women! Do you not have silver with which you may adorn yourselves? Beware! Any woman among you who wears gold and displays it, she will be punished with it on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 8002
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا وَقَالَ مَرْوَانُ سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ تَقُولُ قَالَتْ لَمَّا نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ لُبْسِ الذَّهَبِ قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلَا نَرْبِطُ الْمَسْكَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ قَالَ أَفَلَا تَرْبِطُونَهُ بِالْفِضَّةِ ثُمَّ تَلْطَخُونَهُ بِزَعْفَرَانٍ فَيَكُونَ مِثْلَ الذَّهَبِ
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited wearing gold, we said: O Messenger of Allah! Can we tie its chain with thread? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why don’t you tie it with silver, then apply saffron to it, so it will become like gold.
Hadith 8003
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ خُصَيْفٍ وَحَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خُصَيْفٌ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ
Ata narrated a similar hadith from Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her).
Hadith 8004
عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الذَّهَبِ يُرْبَطُ بِهِ أَوْ تُرْبَطُ بِهِ الْمَسْكُ قَالَ اجْعَلِيهِ فِضَّةً وَصَفِّرِيهِ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ زَعْفَرَانٍ
Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) whether bracelets and the like could be made from a gold chain. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Make them from silver, and mix some saffron on it to give it a yellow color.
