بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي نَفْسِ الْخَاتَمِ وَلبْسِهِ فِي الْيَمِينِ وَكَرَهَتِهِ فِي الْوُسْطَى
Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding the Ring Itself, Wearing It on the Right Hand, and Disliking It on the Middle Finger
Hadith 7984
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَنَعَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ فَنَقَشَ فِيهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَا تَنْقُشُوا عَلَيْهِ
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a ring made of silver and had the words "Muhammad Rasul Allah" engraved on it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not have an inscription like this made.
Hadith 7985
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ كَانَ فِي خَاتَمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the ring of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was engraved with the words "Muhammad, Messenger of Allah."
Hadith 7986
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا تَسْتَضِيئُوا بِنَارِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَلَا تَنْقُشُوا خَوَاتِيمَكُمْ عَرَبِيًّا
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not seek light from the fire of the polytheists, and do not engrave Arabic inscriptions on your rings.
Hadith 7987
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَنْبَأَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي رَافِعٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ رَأَى عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ
Hammad bin Salamah says: I saw Ibn Abi Rafi’ wearing a ring on his right hand. When I asked him about it, he said: I saw Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja’far (may Allah be pleased with him) wearing a ring on his right hand, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja’far (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wear a ring on his right hand.
Hadith 7988
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أَجْعَلَ خَاتَمِي فِي هَذِهِ السَّبَّابَةِ أَوِ الَّتِي تَلِيهَا
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade me from wearing a ring on the index finger or the one next to it, that is, the middle finger.
