Hadith 7961
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a gold ring made, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would keep its stone on the inside of his palm. People also had gold rings made, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) discarded it and had a silver ring made.
Hadith 7962
(Second chain) It is stated in this: People also had rings made of gold, so the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up and said: I had worn this ring, now I will never wear it again. Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, threw it away. Seeing this scene, the people also threw away their rings.
Hadith 7963
(Third chain) The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) had a gold ring. He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to keep its stone on the inside of his palm. One day, he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) threw away that ring, so the people also threw away their rings. Then he had a silver ring made. He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used it to seal (documents) and did not wear it.
Hadith 7964
Muhammad bin Malik says: I saw Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), he was wearing a gold ring. People said to him: Why are you wearing a gold ring, when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden it? Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Once we were with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and there was war booty in front of him, which he was distributing. There were captives and household goods. He (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed it, until only this ring remained. He (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his gaze and looked towards his companions, then lowered his gaze, then raised it and looked at them, then lowered it, and then raised his gaze and looked at them again. Then he said: O Bara’! So I came and sat in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) picked up this ring and made me wear it and said: Take what Allah Almighty and His Messenger have made you wear. Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: Now why do you order me to take it off, when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has said: O Bara’! Wear what Allah Almighty and His Messenger have made you wear.

Syedna Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man from the delegation of Najran came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He was wearing a gold ring. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his face away from him and did not pay any attention to him. That man went to his wife and told her about this treatment. She said: Something must have happened, you should return to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He went back, having removed his ring and cloak, and now sought permission from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him permission. He greeted the Prophet, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied to his greeting. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Earlier I had come to you, but you turned away from me. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you came at that time, there was a burning ember in your hand. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Then I have brought many more embers, for he had brought jewelry from Bahrain. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whatever you have brought is of no use to us; it is only as beneficial as the stones of Harrah. It is merely a provision of worldly life. He said: O Messenger of Allah! Please explain my excuse to your companions, lest they think that you were angry with me for some reason. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and explained the man’s excuse, that whatever was done to him was because of his gold ring.

Then Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) entered and said: O Abu Abdur Rahman! Do all of them recite in the same way as you recite? He said: If you wish, I can order some of them to recite to you. He said to me: Yes, recite. Ibn Hudair said: You are ordering him to recite, even though he is not more learned than us? He said: By Allah! If you wish, I can inform you of what the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said for your people and his people. He says: I recited fifty verses of Surah Maryam. He said: You did well. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whatever I recite, he has also recited it.
