Abu Sheikh Hanai says: I went to Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), while a group of the noble Companions was present with him. Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I ask you by Allah, do you know that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing silk? They said: Yes. He said: I also bear witness. Then he said: I ask you by Allah, do you know that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing gold, except that a little may be used? The Companions said: Yes. He said: I also bear witness. Then he said: I ask you by Allah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade spreading the skins of leopards? The Companions said: Yes. He said: I also bear witness. Then he said: I ask you by Allah, do you know that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking water from silver vessels? They said: Yes. He said: I also bear witness. Then he said: I ask you by Allah, do you know that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade combining Hajj and Umrah? The Companions said: No, there is no such thing. But he said: Beware, this is also among them.

Abu Mujib says that Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) met Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) had made the hilt of his sword from silver. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) stopped him and said that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever leaves behind silver or gold, he will be branded with it.

The people asked: O Commander of the Faithful! What is Maitharah? He said: These are (silk cushions) which women make in their homes for their husbands. We asked: What is Qassi? He said: This is a flowery (silk) cloth brought to us from the direction of Syria, in which patterns like oranges were made. Abu Burdah says: When I saw the cloth made in the Sabn region, I realized that these are the same.

Yazid, the narrator, says: "Maisarah" refers to the skins of wild animals, "Qassi" is a fine, flower-patterned garment made of silk that is brought from Egypt, and a garment dyed deeply with the 'Usfur plant is called "Mufdam."

Malik bin Umair says: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when Sa’sa’ah bin Sawhan came to him, greeted him with salam, and then stood up and said: O Commander of the Faithful! For whatever the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade you, forbid us from it as well. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from using gourds as vessels, green jugs, tar-coated vessels, and wooden vessels made by hollowing out date-palm trunks. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from silk clothing, red silk cushions, silk, gold rings, and signet rings. Sayyiduna Ali said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me a suit of silk; I wore it and went outside so that people could see the garment the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had given me, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me and ordered me to take it off. Then he sent one part of it to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and distributed the other part among his other women.

Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me a striped silk garment. When I went out wearing it, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O Ali! I did not give it to you to wear.” I went to Lady Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and tore the garment into two pieces. Lady Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “O son of Abu Talib! What have you done?” I said: “The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade me from wearing it. You wear it, and let other women wear it as well.”

He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, make it from silver or color it yellow with saffron.
