Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever puts on new clothes and when the garment reaches his collarbone, he recites this supplication: "All praise is due to Allah who has clothed me with that by which I cover my private parts and adorn myself in my life." Then if he gives his old garment in charity, he comes under the responsibility, protection, and care of Allah Almighty, whether he is alive or deceased, whether he is living or dead, (in every condition he will come under the protection of Allah Almighty).

It is narrated from Abu Matar that he saw Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), who was still a young boy at the time. He bought a shirt for three dirhams. When he wore it from the shoulders to the ankles, he recited this supplication: "All praise is due to Allah, Who has provided me with fine clothing by which I adorn myself among people and with which I cover my private parts." When he was asked whether he was reciting this supplication from himself or narrating it from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he replied: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recite this supplication when wearing clothes: "All praise is due to Allah, Who has provided me with fine clothing by which I adorn myself among people and with which I cover my private parts."
