بَابُ مَاجَاءَ فِي النَّعَالِ وَلُبْسِهَا وَآدَابِ تَتَعَلَّقُ بِذَلِكَ
Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding Sandals, Wearing Them, and Related Etiquette
Hadith 7911
عَنْ نَافِعٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا كَانَ يَلْبَسُ السِّبْتِيَّةَ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ فِيهَا وَذَكَرَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَفْعَلُهُ
Nafi' says that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to wear Sabti shoes and perform ablution in them, and he narrated that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do the same.
Hadith 7912
عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ فِي غَزْوَةٍ غَزَاهَا اسْتَكْثِرُوا مِنَ النِّعَالِ فَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَا يَزَالُ رَاكِبًا مَا انْتَعَلَ
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say, on the occasion of a battle: Wear shoes frequently, for as long as a person keeps wearing shoes, it is as if he is mounted (riding).
Hadith 7913
عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى مَشْيَخَةٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ بِيضٌ لِحَاهُمْ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ حَمِّرُوا وَصَفِّرُوا وَخَالِفُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يَتَسَرْوَلُونَ وَلَا يَأْتَزِرُونَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسَرْوَلُوا وَائْتَزِرُوا وَخَالِفُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يَتَخَفَّفُونَ وَلَا يَنْتَعِلُونَ قَالَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَخَفَّفُوا وَانْتَعِلُوا وَخَالِفُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ قَالَ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ يَقُصُّونَ عَثَانِينَهُمْ وَيُوَفِّرُونَ سِبَالَهُمْ قَالَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُصُّوا سِبَالَكُمْ وَوَفِّرُوا عَثَانِينَكُمْ وَخَالِفُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the elderly people of the Ansar, whose beards had turned white. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O group of Ansar! Dye your beards red and yellow, and oppose the People of the Book. They said: O Messenger of Allah! The People of the Book wear trousers and do not wear waistcloths. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should wear trousers as well as waistcloths, and oppose the People of the Book. They said: O Messenger of Allah! The People of the Book wear socks and do not wear shoes. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should wear socks as well as shoes, and oppose the People of the Book. They said: O Messenger of Allah! The People of the Book scratch their beards and grow their moustaches long. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should trim your moustaches and let your beards grow, and oppose the People of the Book.
Hadith 7914
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَتْ نِعَالُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَهُمَا قِبَالَانِ
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) had two straps on his sandals.
Hadith 7915
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا انْتَعَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِيَمِينِهِ وَإِذَا خَلَعَ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِشِمَالِهِ وَقَالَ أَنْعِلْهُمَا جَمِيعًا زَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ وَإِذَا انْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلَا يَمْشِ فِي نَعْلٍ وَاحِدٍ لِيَحْفَهُمَا جَمِيعًا أَوْ لِيُنْعِلْهُمَا جَمِيعًا
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you puts on shoes, he should begin with the right side, and when he takes them off, he should begin with the left foot, and walk wearing both shoes. In another narration it is stated: When the strap of one shoe breaks, a person should not walk with one shoe, rather he should take off both shoes, or wear both.
Hadith 7916
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا انْتَعَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِالْيَمِينِ وَإِذَا نَزَعَ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِالشِّمَالِ وَلْتَكُنِ الْيَمِينُ أَوَّلَهُمَا تُنْعَلُ وَآخِرَهُمَا تُنْزَعُ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When any one of you puts on shoes, he should begin with the right side, and when he takes them off, he should begin with the left side, that is, when putting them on, he should put on the right first, and when taking them off, he should remove the right last.
Hadith 7917
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِذَا وَلَغَ الْكَلْبُ فِي إِنَاءِ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيَغْسِلْهُ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ وَإِذَا انْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلَا يَمْشِ فِي نَعْلِهِ الْأُخْرَى حَتَّى يُصْلِحَهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When a dog puts its mouth in the vessel of any one of you, he should wash it seven times, and when the strap of the shoe of any one of you breaks, he should not walk with one shoe until he repairs the other shoe (and wears both together).
Hadith 7918
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى أَنْ يَمْشِيَ فِي خُفٍّ وَاحِدَةٍ أَوْ نَعْلٍ وَاحِدَةٍ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade walking in one sock or one shoe.
