بَابُ تَحْرِيمِ الْقَمَارِ وَاللَّعْبِ بِالنَّرْدِ وَمَا فِى ذلك
Chapter on the Prohibition of Gambling and Playing with Dice and What Is Related to That
Hadith 7887
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ حَلَفَ فَقَالَ فِي حَلْفِهِ وَاللَّاتِ فَلْيَقُلْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَمَنْ قَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ تَعَالَ أُقَامِرْكَ فَلْيَتَصَدَّقْ بِشَيْءٍ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever swears an oath and in his oath says, "By al-Lat," then he should say (to atone for this mistake): "La ilaha illallah" (There is no god but Allah), and whoever says to his companion, "Come, let us gamble," he should give some charity.
Hadith 7888
عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ لَعِبَ بِالنَّرْدِ وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ بِالْكِعَابِ فَقَدْ عَصَى اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever played with backgammon, and in another narration: Whoever played with the pieces of the backgammon game, has disobeyed Allah Almighty and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 7889
عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا يُقَلِّبُ كَعَبَاتِهَا أَحَدٌ يَنْتَظِرُ مَا تَأْتِي بِهِ إِلَّا عَصَى اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ
(Second chain) The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever turns over the dice pieces of the game of nard and waits to see what result comes out, he disobeys Allah Almighty and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 7890
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَهَاتَانِ الْكَعْبَتَانِ الْمَوْسُومَتَانِ اللَّتَانِ تُزْجَرَانِ زَجْرًا فَإِنَّهُمَا مَيْسِرُ الْعَجَمِ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Beware of two types of signet rings that are marked; they are prohibited, this is the gambling of the non-Arabs.
Hadith 7891
عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ لَعِبَ بِالنَّرْدَشِيرِ فَكَأَنَّمَا غَمَسَ يَدَهُ فِي لَحْمِ خِنْزِيرٍ وَدَمِهِ
Sayyiduna Buraidah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever plays with Nardashir, it is as if he has dipped his hand in the flesh and blood of a pig.
Hadith 7892
عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْخَطَمِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَلْعَبُ بِالنَّرْدِ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيُصَلِّي مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَتَوَضَّأُ بِالْقَيْحِ وَدَمِ الْخِنْزِيرِ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيُصَلِّي
Abdur Rahman Khatmi narrates from his father that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The person who plays backgammon and then goes to pray, his example is like that of a person who performs ablution with pus and the blood of a pig and then prays.
