Saeed bin Jubair says: I was passing through a road in Madinah with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). Some youths had tied up a chicken and were shooting arrows at it, and they had to give every arrow that missed the target to the owner of the chicken. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) became angry upon seeing this scene and said: Who has done this? So they scattered. Then he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has cursed the person who mutilates an animal.
Hadith 7883
(Second chain) Sa'id bin Jubair says: I went out with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, from his house. We passed by some young men of the Quraysh who had tied up a bird and were shooting at it. They had agreed to give every arrow that missed the target to the owner of the bird. When they saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, they ran away. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, inquired: Who has done this? May Allah curse the one who has done this. Indeed, the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the person who uses a living being as a target for shooting.
