Husayn bin Abdur Rahman says: I was with Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Jubair, and he said: Who among you saw that star which fell last night? I said: Yes, I saw it. Then I said: I did not see it because I was praying, but because I had been bitten by a poisonous creature (and I was awake). Sayyiduna Sa'id said: Then what did you do? I said: I performed ruqyah (incantation). He said: Why did you do that? I said: Because of a hadith that Shu'bi narrated to us. He heard it from Sayyiduna Buraydah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) that there is no ruqyah except for the evil eye or a poisonous sting. Sa'id bin Jubair said: That person does very well who is content with what he has heard and does not add to it. Then he said: Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated to us that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The nations were presented before me. I saw a prophet and with him was a group, a prophet and with him one or two men, a prophet and with him no one. Suddenly, a very large group was presented before me. I thought this would be my ummah, but then it was said to me: This is Musa (peace be upon him) and his people. Now look towards the horizon. I looked and saw a very large group. Then I was told to look to the other side; there too was a very large group. Then I was told: This is your ummah, and with them are seventy thousand such people who will enter Paradise without reckoning and without punishment. The people said: Perhaps these are those who had the honor of being the companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Some said: Perhaps these are those who were born in Islam and did not associate partners with Allah, and many other opinions were expressed. Meanwhile, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to them and asked: What is this that you are engaged in? They explained their discussion. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: These are the fortunate ones who neither get themselves cauterized, nor do they seek ruqyah, nor do they take bad omens, and they put their trust in their Lord. Sayyiduna 'Ukasha bin Mihsan Asadi (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! Am I among them? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You are among them. Another person stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! Am I also among them? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Ukasha has preceded you.
Hadith 7737
It is narrated from Sayyidah Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the wife of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him). She says: When Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) would return home after finishing work outside, he would clear his throat at the door so that the household would not be in an undesirable state. One day he came and cleared his throat. There was an old woman with me who was performing a charm (incantation) for my swelling. I made her sit under the bed. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) entered and sat beside me. When he saw a thread around my neck, he asked: What is this? I said: This is a thread; a charm has been performed for me, and it is tied. He took it, cut it off, and said: The family of Abdullah is free from this shirk (polytheism). I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Indeed, incantations, amulets, and love spells are all shirk. I said: Do not say so; my eye used to twitch, so I went to such-and-such Jew who used to perform charms. When he performed the charm, my eye would become calm. He said: That was a satanic act. The devil would strike with his hand, so the eye would twitch. When you had the charm performed, the devil would stop his hand. The supplication of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is sufficient for you: “Remove the harm, O Lord of the people! Grant healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves behind no illness.” (Remove the pain, O Lord of mankind! Grant healing, You are the Healer, there is no healing except Your healing, grant such a healing that leaves no disease behind.)
Hadith 7738
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a brass bracelet on a man's arm. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May you be destroyed, what is this?" He replied: "It is because of weakness." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This will only increase your illness. Throw it away. If you die while it is on you, you will never succeed."
Hadith 7739
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever hangs a tameemah, Allah will not fulfill his wish, and whoever hangs white beads, Allah will not grant him peace.
Hadith 7740
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a group came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He took the pledge of allegiance from nine of them and withheld his hand from one. They said: O Messenger of Allah! You have taken the pledge from nine men and left this one. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He has hung a talisman (tamimah). So that man put his hand in and cut off the amulet, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then took the pledge from him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever hangs a tamimah has committed shirk (associating partners with Allah).
Hadith 7741
Isa bin Abdur Rahman says: We went to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ukeem (may Allah be pleased with him), he was ill, we went to visit him and said to him: If you hang an amulet around your neck for healing, he said: Should I hang something, while the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever hangs something is entrusted to that thing.
Hadith 7742
Syedna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was asked about nushrah. He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "It is a satanic act."
