Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted ruqyah (spiritual healing) for the evil eye, poisonous stings, and boils or abscesses.

Syedna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that my maternal uncle used to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing) for scorpion stings. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade ruqyah, he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! You have forbidden ruqyah, but I perform ruqyah for scorpion stings. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever among you can benefit his brother, let him do so.

It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyida Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her): "What has happened to the bodies of my brother's (Sayyiduna Ja'far, may Allah be pleased with him) children? They are weak. Are they suffering from hunger?" I said: "No, they are very quickly affected by the evil eye. Should we perform ruqyah (spiritual healing) for them?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "With which words?" When she presented her words, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform ruqyah for them."

It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that one of us was stung by a scorpion while we were sitting with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). A man said: O Messenger of Allah! Should I perform ruqyah (incantation) on him? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Let whoever can benefit his brother in any way, do so.

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Amr bin Hazm (may Allah be pleased with him) was called in Madinah to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing) for a woman who had been bitten by a snake, but he refused to perform ruqyah. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he called him and he said: O Messenger of Allah! You have prohibited ruqyah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite the words of this ruqyah before me. So when he recited those words, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no harm in them, these are firm things, perform ruqyah with them.

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunaif (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we passed by a water pond, I entered it and bathed with that water. When I came out, I was feverish. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to know of this, he said: Tell Abu Thabit Sahl bin Hunaif to seek refuge with Allah Almighty. I said: O my master! Is it permissible to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ruqyah should only be done when afflicted by the evil eye or bitten by a poisonous thing.

Sayyiduna Umair, the freed slave of Abi Al-Lahm, says: I presented to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a ruqyah (incantation) which I used to recite during the days of ignorance. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Remove such-and-such phrases and sentences from it, and then whatever words remain, perform ruqyah with them. Muhammad bin Zaid says: I found him in such a state that he used to perform ruqyah on mad people with this ruqyah.
