Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that if anyone among the household of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had a fever, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would order for "maleedah" (a dish made of bread, ghee, and honey) to be prepared. When it was ready, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would instruct that it be given in sips. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It strengthens the heart of the sorrowful and the stomach, and it removes the distress of the sick person's heart, just as you women wash your faces and remove dirt, in the same way this maleedah cleanses the heart and stomach."

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when it was said to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that so-and-so is ill and is not eating food, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: Prepare a dish of bread crumbs mixed with broth and give it to him to drink sip by sip. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, it cleans your stomach just as you clean dirt from your face.

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Adhere to that thing which your nature does not like, but it is greatly beneficial; that thing is maleedah (a type of food). It should be drunk sip by sip. If anyone among the household of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would fall ill, the pot would remain on the fire, and they would be given maleedah to drink until the matter reached its end—meaning either the patient would pass away or recover.

Sayyida Umm al-Mundhir bint Qays Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, and with him was Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), who had just recovered (from an illness). There were some half-ripe dates, some were ripe, and some were hanging. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to eat them, and Sayyiduna Ali also stood up to eat, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to stop him by saying: Stop, for the weakness of the illness still remains. So he stopped. I prepared a dish of barley and beetroot and brought it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ali! Eat this food, (it is more beneficial for you). So both of them ate that food.
