بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي مُعَالَجَةِ أَمْرَاضِ الْبَطْنِ وَذَاتِ الْجُنُبِ وَ مُعَالَجَةِ الْأَطْفَالِ مِنَ الْعُدْرَةِ بِالْعُودِ الْهِنْدِي
Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding Treating Stomach Diseases, Pleurisy, and Treating Children’s Tonsillitis with Indian Wood
Hadith 7685
أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ فِي أَبْوَالِ الْإِبِلِ وَأَلْبَانِهَا شِفَاءً لِلذَّارِبَةِ بُطُونُهُمْ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is a cure for abdominal illness in the urine and milk of camels.
Hadith 7686
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَخِي اسْتُطْلِقَ بَطْنُهُ قَالَ اسْقِهِ عَسَلًا قَالَ فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ قَدْ سَقَيْتُهُ فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُ إِلَّا اسْتِطْلَاقًا قَالَ اسْقِهِ عَسَلًا قَالَ فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ قَدْ سَقَيْتُهُ فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُ إِلَّا اسْتِطْلَاقًا فَقَالَ اسْقِهِ عَسَلًا قَالَ فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ قَدْ سَقَيْتُهُ فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُ إِلَّا اسْتِطْلَاقًا فَقَالَ لَهُ فِي الرَّابِعَةِ اسْقِهِ عَسَلًا قَالَ أَظُنُّهُ قَالَ فَسَقَاهُ فَبَرَأَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الرَّابِعَةِ صَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَكَذَبَ بَطْنُ أَخِيكَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "My brother is suffering from diarrhea." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Give him honey to drink." He gave him honey to drink and came back saying, "I have given him honey, but the diarrhea has increased because of it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Give him honey to drink." So he went and again came back saying, "I have given him honey, but the diarrhea has further increased." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Give him more honey to drink." He went and for the third time came back saying, "I have given him honey, but the diarrhea keeps increasing." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said for the fourth time, "Give him honey to drink." This time, when he gave him honey, he was cured. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Allah is true and your brother's stomach has lied," (meaning your brother's stomach was not yet ready to accept the cure).
Hadith 7687
عَنْ رِبْعِيَّةَ بِنْتِ عِيَاضٍ الْكِلَابِيَّةِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ كُلُوا الرُّمَّانَ بِشَحْمِهِ فَإِنَّهُ دِبَاغُ الْمَعِدَةِ
Rabee'ah bint Iyadh Kalabiyyah narrates that I heard Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) say: Eat pomegranate along with its membrane, for it is for the stomach as tanning is for leather to preserve it.
Hadith 7688
عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَتَدَاوَوْا مِنْ ذَاتِ الْجَنْبِ بِالْعُودِ الْهِنْدِيِّ وَالزَّيْتِ
Sayyiduna Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed the companions to treat pneumonia with Indian aloeswood and olive oil.
Hadith 7689
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْعَتُ الزَّيْتَ وَالْوَرْسَ مِنْ ذَاتِ الْجَنْبِ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ يَلُدُّهُ مِنْ جَانِبِهِ الَّذِي يَشْتَكِيهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to prescribe olive oil and wars herb for the illness of pneumonia. Imam Qatadah said: Drops should be put into the side of the mouth where the complaint of illness is.
Hadith 7690
عَنْ أُمِّ قَيْسٍ بِنْتِ مِحْصَنٍ الْأَسَدِيَّةِ أُخْتِ عُكَّاشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ جِئْتُ بِابْنٍ لِي قَدْ أَعْلَقْتُ عَنْهُ أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ بِهِ الْعُذْرَةُ وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ وَقَدْ أَعْلَقْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْعُذْرَةِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَامَ تَدْغَرْنَ أَوْلَادَكُنَّ بِهَذِهِ الْعَلَائِقِ عَلَيْكُنَّ بِهَذَا الْعُودِ الْهِنْدِيِّ قَالَ يَعْنِي الْكُسْتَ فَإِنَّ فِيهِ سَبْعَةَ أَشْفِيَةٍ مِنْهَا ذَاتُ الْجَنْبِ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَبِيَّهَا فَوَضَعَهُ فِي حِجْرِهِ فَبَالَ عَلَيْهِ فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَنَضَحَهُ وَلَمْ يَكُنِ الصَّبِيُّ بَلَغَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الطَّعَامَ قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ فَمَضَتِ السُّنَّةُ بِأَنْ يُرَشَّ بَوْلُ الصَّبِيِّ وَيُغْسَلَ بَوْلُ الْجَارِيَةِ قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ فَيُسْتَسْعَطُ لِلْعُذْرَةِ وَيُلَدُّ لِذَاتِ الْجَنْبِ
Sayyidah Umm Qais bint Mihsan Asadiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), the sister of Sayyiduna ‘Ukasha (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: I brought my son who had his throat injured by medicine applied inside it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not injure children’s throats by poking with fingers; rather, use Indian aloeswood (oud al-hindi), for it is a cure for seven diseases, one of which is pneumonia. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the child, seated him in his lap, and the child urinated on him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water and sprinkled it. The child had not yet reached the age of eating food. Imam Zuhri says: The established practice is that when a boy urinates, water is sprinkled, and when a girl urinates, it is washed. For throat ailments, drops are put in the nose, and for pneumonia, drops are put in the mouth.
Hadith 7691
عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي غَنِيَّةَ دَخَلَ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ بِصَبِيٍّ يَسِيلُ مَنْخِرَاهُ دَمًا قَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ وَعِنْدَهَا صَبِيٌّ يَبْعَثُ مَنْخِرَاهُ دَمًا قَالَ فَقَالَ مَا لِهَذَا قَالَ فَقَالُوا بِهِ الْعُذْرَةُ قَالَ فَقَالَ عَلَامَ تُعَذِّبْنَ أَوْلَادَكُنَّ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِي إِحْدَاكُنَّ أَنْ تَأْخُذَ قُسْطًا هِنْدِيًّا فَتَحُكَّهُ بِمَاءٍ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ ثُمَّ تُوجِرَهُ إِيَّاهُ قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي غَنِيَّةَ ثُمَّ تُسْعِطَهُ إِيَّاهُ فَفَعَلُوا فَبَرَأَ
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) (and according to one narrator’s report) to Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and there was a child with her whose nostrils were bleeding. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What has happened to him? It was said that he has a throat ailment. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why do you put your children in distress? It is sufficient that you take Indian aloeswood, soak it in water seven times, and put it in his throat. Ibn Abi Utbah, the narrator, says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to put it in his nose. So they did so, and the child was cured.
