Usamah bin Sharik narrates from a man of his tribe that a Bedouin came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Who among the people is the best? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: The one who has the best character. He then said: O Messenger of Allah! Can we seek medical treatment? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Absolutely, seek treatment. Allah Almighty has not sent down any disease except that He has also created its cure and its healing; whoever knows it, knows it, and whoever remains unaware of it, remains unaware.

(Second chain) Shu’bah, from Ziyad bin ‘Ilaqah, and he from Sayyiduna Usamah bin Sharik (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that he said: I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), while his noble companions were also present with him. They were sitting so respectfully as if birds were perched on their heads. I greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and sat down there. A Bedouin came and asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! Can we seek treatment? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes! Seek treatment or get treated. Indeed, Allah Almighty has created a cure for every disease He has created, except for old age (and according to one narration, also death). When Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) became old, he used to say: Can you treat me now? Besides this, the Bedouins asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Is there any harm in such-and-such thing? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O servants of Allah! Allah Almighty has not placed any hardship in the religion, except in the matter where a Muslim commits oppression; that is hardship, that is destruction. They said: O Messenger of Allah! What is the best thing that has been given to people? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Good character.
