Hadith 7560
Abdullah bin Dailami says: I entered upon Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both), he was in a garden of his in Ta’if called Wahat. Next to him sat a young man from the Quraysh, who was accused of drinking wine. I said: O Abdullah! A hadith has reached me from you that whoever drinks a sip of wine, Allah Almighty does not accept his repentance for forty days, and wretched is he who is wretched from his mother’s womb, and whoever comes to Bayt al-Maqdis, and his coming is only for prayer, then he comes out of his sins as the day his mother gave birth to him. When the young man heard the mention of the punishment for wine, he withdrew his hand from the hand of Sayyiduna Abdullah and left. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I do not allow anyone to attribute to me what I have not said. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever drinks a sip of wine, Allah Almighty will not accept his prayer for forty days. If he repents, Allah Almighty will accept his repentance. If he drinks again, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days. If he repents, Allah Almighty will accept his repentance. If he returns again—I do not remember whether he mentioned the third or fourth time—then he said: If after that he drinks again, it is Allah Almighty’s right to make him drink from a river flowing with the pus of the people of Hell.
Hadith 7561
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever drinks wine and becomes intoxicated, his prayers will not be accepted for forty days. If he drinks wine again and becomes intoxicated, his prayers will not be accepted for forty days. On the third or fourth time, he said: If he drinks wine, his prayers will not be accepted for forty days. If he repents, Allah Almighty does not accept his repentance, and it is incumbent upon Allah to make him drink from the spring of Khabal. Someone asked: What is the spring of Khabal? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is the pus of the people of Hell.
Hadith 7562
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever drinks alcohol, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days. If he repents, Allah Almighty accepts his repentance. If he returns to drinking alcohol, I do not know whether it was the third or fourth time that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If he drinks alcohol again, it is incumbent upon Allah to make him drink from the mud of khabal. The people asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is the mud of khabal? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is the pus of the inhabitants of Hell.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever drinks alcohol, his prayers will not be accepted for forty days. Someone asked: What is meant by the river of Khabal? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is a river that flows from the pus of the inhabitants of Hell.

If he dies in that state, he will die as a disbeliever. If he repents, Allah Almighty will accept his repentance. And if he drinks alcohol again, then it is Allah’s right to make him drink from the mud of khabal. I asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is the mud of khabal? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is where the pus of the people of Hell is collected.
