بَابُ كَرَاهَةِ الْأَكْلِ قَائِمًا وَمُتَّكِنًا
Chapter: Dislike of Eating While Standing or Reclining
Hadith 7392
عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنِ الشُّرْبِ قَائِمًا قُلْتُ فَالْأَكْلُ قَالَ ذَاكَ أَشَدُّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking water while standing. I asked: And eating? He said: That matter would be even more severe.
Hadith 7393
عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا آكُلُ مُتَّكِئًا
Sayyiduna Abu Juhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I do not eat while reclining.
Hadith 7394
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أُهْدِيَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَمْرٌ فَجَعَلَ يُقْسِمُهُ بِمِكْتَلٍ وَاحِدٍ وَأَنَا رَسُولُهُ بِهِ حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْهُ فَجَعَلَ يَأْكُلُ وَهُوَ مُقْعٍ أَكْلًا ذَرِيعًا فَعَرَفْتُ فِي أَكْلِهِ الْجُوعَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was given a gift of dates. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to distribute them with the help of a basket, and I was acting as an intermediary. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished distributing, he ate some dates, while he was sitting with his shins raised and his back resting on the ground, and he was eating the dates quickly. I sensed that he was hungry.
Hadith 7395
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ بَعَثَنِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حَاجَةٍ فَجِئْتُ وَهُوَ يَأْكُلُ تَمْرًا وَهُوَ مُقْعٍ
(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me for a task. When I returned, he was reclining with his shins raised and his back on the ground, eating dates.
