Hadith 7347
Syedna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that there were some people living in a house at the Harrah area in Madinah, and they were very needy. A she-camel belonging to them or to someone else died. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted them permission to eat that dead animal, and thus they were able to survive the rest of the winter or the time of famine. In another narration, it is mentioned: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the owner of the she-camel, "Do you have anything else besides this dead animal?" He replied, "No, I do not." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then go and eat it."
Hadith 7348
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man lived with his father in the volcanic land. Another man said to him: "My she-camel has gone somewhere; when you find her, keep her with you." Indeed, he found the she-camel, but her owner did not come, until the she-camel became ill. The man's wife said to him: "Slaughter her so that we may eat her." But the man did not do so, until the she-camel herself died. His wife said: "Now skin her, we will cut pieces and strips of her meat and fat and eat them." The man said: "I will not do so until I ask the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." So he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this matter. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have anything besides this dead she-camel that would suffice you for food?" He said: "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then eat it." Later, when the owner of the she-camel came, he said to the man: "Why did you not slaughter her?" He replied: "I was just shy of you (how could I slaughter her without your permission)."
Hadith 7349
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Waqid Al-Laithi (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I said, O Messenger of Allah! We live in a region where hunger prevails, what is permissible for us from the dead animals? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you find nothing to eat in the morning, nor in the evening, and you do not find any vegetables, then you may eat the dead animal.
