Chapter: What Has Been Reported Regarding the Jerboa, Hedgehog, and Chicken
Hadith 7306
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ ثَارَتْ أَرْنَبٌ فَتَبِعَهَا النَّاسُ فَكُنْتُ فِي أَوَّلِ مَنْ سَبَقَ إِلَيْهَا فَأَخَذْتُهَا فَأَتَيْتُ بِهَا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ قَالَ فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَذُبِحَتْ ثُمَّ شُوِّيَتْ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ عَجْزَهَا فَقَالَ ائْتِ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ إِنَّ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْكُمْ بِعَجْزِ هَذِهِ الْأَرْنَبِ قَالَ فَقَبِلَهُ مِنِّي
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a rabbit ran, and people chased after it. I outran them all and caught the rabbit. I brought it to Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), and he instructed that it be slaughtered. So it was slaughtered, and then its meat was roasted. Then he took the hind part with the thigh and said: Go and give this to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So I went to him and said: Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) has sent this hind part of the rabbit for you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted it.
Hadith 7307
عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ صَادَ أَرْنَبَيْنِ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ حَدِيدَةً يَذْبَحُهُمَا بِهَا فَذَبَحَهُمَا بِمَرْوَةٍ فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَمَرَهُ بِأَكْلِهِمَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Safwan that he caught two rabbits while hunting. There was nothing made of iron present with which to slaughter them, so he slaughtered them with the tip of a stone. When he came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed him to eat them.
Hadith 7308
عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ نُمَيْلَةَ الْفَزَارِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فَسُئِلَ عَنْ أَكْلِ الْقُنْفُذِ فَتَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ قُلْ لَا أَجِدُ فِيمَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ مُحَرَّمًا [الأنعام: 145] إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ فَقَالَ شَيْخٌ عِنْدَهُ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ ذُكِرَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ خَبِيثٌ مِنَ الْخَبَائِثِ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا إِنْ كَانَ قَالَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَهُوَ كَمَا قَالَهُ
It is narrated from Namila Fazari, he says: I was with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), he was asked about the ruling of the porcupine, in response he recited this verse: {قُلْ لَآ أَجِدُ فِیمَا أُوحِیَ إِلَیَّ مُحَرَّمًا … } … Say: I do not find in what has been revealed to me anything forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it unless it be carrion, or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine—for that surely is impure—or a sinful offering over which any name other than Allah’s has been invoked. An elder sitting with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) say that the porcupine was mentioned in the presence of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said about it: It is one of the impure animals among the impure animals. Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: If the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has said this about it, then it is as he has said.
Hadith 7309
عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ وَهُوَ يَأْكُلُ دَجَاجًا فَتَنَحَّى فَقَالَ إِنِّي حَلَفْتُ أَنْ لَا آكُلَهُ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ يَأْكُلُ شَيْئًا قَذِرًا فَقَالَ لَهُ ادْنُهْ فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْكُلُهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came to him while he was eating chicken meat. The man separated himself and did not eat that food. When Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him, he said: I have sworn an oath not to eat it, because I saw that it eats filth. Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Come near and eat it, for I have seen the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) eating chicken meat.
