It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Abdullah, he says: I asked Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): Can I eat the meat of a badger? He said: Yes. I asked: Is it considered game? He said: Yes. I asked: Did you hear this from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes.

Abdullah bin Yazid Sa'di says: Some people from my tribe told me to ask Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) whether people sharpen the tip of a spear and fix it into the ground, and with it, a badger is killed. Is such a method of slaughtering correct in your opinion? So I sat with Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, and there was an elderly man present with him, whose head and beard hair were white; he was a Syrian. I asked him about this matter. He said to me: Do you eat badger? I said: I have never eaten it, but people from my tribe do eat it. He said: Eating badger is not lawful. The elder said: O servant of Allah! Shall I not narrate to you the hadith which I heard from Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him), and he narrates it from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? I said: Yes, of course, please narrate it. He said: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) say that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade these things: a part cut from a living animal, stolen property, an animal that is tied and made a target, and every predatory animal with fangs. Sa'id bin al-Musayyib said: The elder has spoken the truth.

(Second chain) He says: I asked Sa'id bin al-Musayyib about the badger, and he considered it disliked. I said: Your people eat it. He said: They do not have knowledge. A man sitting with them said: I heard from Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him), then narrated a hadith similar to the one above.
