Syedna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best charity is that after spending, you still remain affluent, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and start with those whose maintenance is your responsibility. Someone asked: O Messenger of Allah! Whose maintenance am I responsible for? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Your wife is included in this, she says: Feed me, otherwise divorce me; your slave-girl is included in this, she says: Feed me and provide me work; and your children are also included in this, who say: To whom will you hand us over?
