Chapter: Permissibility for a Woman to Spend from Her Husband's Wealth Without His Knowledge If He Withholds Her Due

2 hadith
Hadith 7262
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that Lady Hind (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Of all the tents on the face of the earth, there was no tent more disliked by me than yours; that is, among all the people of the tents, it was your household whom I most wished to see humiliated, that Allah would disgrace them. But today, there are no people of any tent on the face of the earth whom I wish Allah to honor more than your household; that is, now I wish to see your household honored. In response, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, this was the same feeling from both sides. By the One in Whose hand is my soul! Then Hind said: O Messenger of Allah! Abu Sufyan is a miserly man; he does not give enough expenses for the children. Is there any harm if I, without his permission, take some of his wealth and spend it on the children’s maintenance? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you take it in a good manner for spending, then there is no harm in it.

(Narration through another chain) It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Hind bint Utbah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! My husband Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) is a miserly man, he does not give me enough expenses that would suffice for me and my children, and I manage by taking some of his wealth without informing him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You may take, in a good manner, what is sufficient for you and your children.
