بابُ إِجَابَةِ الدَّاعِي إِلَى الْوَلِيمَةِ
Chapter: Responding to the Invitation to the Wedding Feast
Hadith 7037
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا نُودِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى وَلِيمَةٍ فَلْيَأْتِهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any of you is invited to a wedding feast (walimah), he should attend that walimah.
Hadith 7038
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى وَلِيمَةِ عُرْسٍ فَلْيُجِبْ
(Second chain) The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When any of you is invited to a wedding feast (walima), he should accept that invitation.
Hadith 7039
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا دَعَا أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ فَلْيُجِبْ عُرْسًا كَانَ أَوْ نَحْوَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you invites his brother, he should accept this invitation, whether it is a wedding invitation or any other.
Hadith 7040
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَبْلُغُ بِهِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى طَعَامٍ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ فَلْيَقُلْ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When any of you is invited and he is fasting, then he should say that he is fasting.
Hadith 7041
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ دُعِيَ فَلْيُجِبْ فَإِنْ كَانَ مُفْطِرًا أَكَلَ وَإِنْ كَانَ صَائِمًا فَلْيُصَلِّ وَلْيَدْعُ لَهُمْ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever is invited should accept it; if he is not fasting, he should eat, and if he is fasting, he should pray for the host.
Hadith 7042
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيُجِبْ فَإِنْ شَاءَ طَعِمَ وَإِنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any of you is invited, he should accept the invitation; then if he wishes, he may eat, and if he wishes, he may not eat.
Hadith 7043
عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الدَّعْوَةِ فَلْيُجِبْ أَوْ قَالَ فَلْيَأْتِهَا قَالَ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يُجِيبُ صَائِمًا وَمُفْطِرًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When someone is invited, he should accept it. Or he said: He should attend the invitation. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would accept every invitation, whether he was fasting or not.
Hadith 7044
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ شَرُّ الطَّعَامِ طَعَامُ الْوَلِيمَةِ يُدْعَى الْغَنِيُّ وَيُتْرَكُ الْمِسْكِينُ وَفِي لَفْظٍ يُدْعَى إِلَيْهَا الْأَغْنِيَاءُ وَيُتْرَكُ الْمَسَاكِينُ وَهِيَ حَقٌّ وَمَنْ تَرَكَهَا فَقَدْ عَصَى وَكَانَ مَعْمَرٌ رُبَّمَا قَالَ وَمَنْ لَمْ يُجِبِ الدَّعْوَةَ فَقَدْ عَصَى اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: The food of the wedding feast (walimah) is the worst food, in which the rich are invited and the poor are left out, although it is a rightful invitation; whoever leaves it has disobeyed. The words of the narrator Mu’ammar are: Whoever did not accept the invitation has disobeyed Allah Almighty and His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him.
Hadith 7045
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ لَمْ يُجِبِ الدَّعْوَةَ فَقَدْ عَصَى اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever does not accept an invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 7046
عَنْ عِكْرَمَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا غَادِيَةَ الْيَمَانِيَّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ كَثِيرِ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ فَدَعَاهُمْ فَمَا قَامَ إِلَّا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَخَمْسَةٌ مِنْهُمْ أَنَا أَحَدُهُمْ فَذَهَبُوا فَأَكَلُوا ثُمَّ جَاءَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فَغَسَلَ يَدَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَاللَّهِ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَسْجِدِ إِنَّكُمْ لَعُصَاةٌ لِأَبِي الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ
It is narrated from Abu Ghadiyah Yamani, he says: I came to Madinah, the messenger of Kathir bin Salt came and invited the people of the mosque, only Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and five more men stood up, I was one of them, so these people went and ate food. When Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) returned, he washed his hands and said: By Allah! O people of the mosque! Indeed, you are disobedient to Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him).
