It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade shighar. The narrator says: I asked Nafi‘, “What is shighar?” He said: It is when a man marries his daughter to another man and himself marries that man's daughter, or similarly, when a man marries his sister to another man and himself marries that man's sister, while there is no dowry (mahr) in between.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the marriage of Shighar. Imam Malik says: Shighar is when a man says to another man: Marry your daughter to me and I will marry my daughter to you.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade shighar. The narrator says: Shighar is when a man says to another man: “Marry your daughter to me and I will marry my daughter to you,” or “Marry your sister to me and I will marry my sister to you.” And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also forbade deceptive trade and pebble sale.
Abdur Rahman bin Harmza Arj narrates that Abbas bin Abdullah bin Abbas married his daughter to Abdur Rahman bin Hakam, and Abdur Rahman married his daughter to him. They also determined the dowry between them. Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the Caliph, wrote a letter to Marwan and ordered him to separate them. In his letter, he clarified that this is the same shighar (exchange marriage) which the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the marriage of Shighar.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: There is no shighar in Islam.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no concept of Shighar in Islam.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no Shighar in Islam.
