Hadith 6984
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him): We were engaged in jihad with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we did not have our wives with us. We said: O Messenger of Allah! Should we not get ourselves castrated? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from doing so, and then he permitted us to marry women for a specified period in exchange for garments and the like (which is called Mut’ah). Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: O you who believe! Do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors. (Surah Al-Ma’idah: 87)
