بَابُ مَنْ جَعَلَ الْعِلْقَ صَدَاقًا وَكَذَالِكَ تَعْلِيمُ بَعْضِ الْقُرْآن
Chapter: One Who Made an Iron Ring a Dowry, and Likewise Teaching Some of the Qur'an
Hadith 6929
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْتَقَ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ حُيَيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا وَجَعَلَ عِتْقَهَا صَدَاقَهَا
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) freed Sayyida Safiyyah bint Huyayy and made her freedom itself her dowry.
Hadith 6930
عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبْتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ فَقَامَتْ قِيَامًا طَوِيلًا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ زَوِّجْنِيهَا إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَلْ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ تُصْدِقُهَا إِيَّاهُ فَقَالَ مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا إِزَارِي هَذَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنْ أَعْطَيْتَهَا إِزَارَكَ جَلَسْتَ لَا إِزَارَ لَكَ فَالْتَمِسْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ مَا أَجِدُ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ الْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فَالْتَمَسَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا لِسُوَرٍ يُسَمِّيهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ زَوَّجْتُكُمَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ وَفِي لَفْظٍ فَقَدْ أَمْلَكْتُهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَمْضِي وَهِيَ تَتْبَعُهُ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I offer myself to you. Then she stood for a long time. Meanwhile, a man stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah! If you have no need of her, then marry her to me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you have anything to give her as a dowry? He said: I have only this lower garment. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you give her this lower garment, you yourself will be left without a lower garment. Go and find something else. He said: I have nothing else. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Search, even if it is an iron ring. He searched, but could not find anything. Finally, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Do you know any portion of the Qur’an by heart? He said: Yes, such and such surahs. He also mentioned the names of those surahs. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Whatever portion of the Qur’an you know by heart, I have married you to this woman in exchange for that. In another narration it is stated: Whatever portion of the Qur’an you know by heart, I have made you the owner of this woman in exchange for that. Then I saw that man walking away and his wife was following behind him.
Hadith 6931
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَأَلَ رَجُلًا مِنْ صَحَابَتِهِ فَقَالَ أَيَ فُلَانُ هَلْ تَزَوَّجْتَ قَالَ لَا وَلَيْسَ عِنْدِي مَا أَتَزَوَّجُ بِهِ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ مَعَكَ {قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ} [الإخلاص 1] قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ رُبُعُ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ مَعَكَ {قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ} [الكافرون 1] قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ رُبُعُ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ مَعَكَ {إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ} [الزلزلة 1] قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ رُبُعُ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ مَعَكَ {إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ} [النصر 1] قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ رُبُعُ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ مَعَكَ آيَةُ الْكُرْسِيِّ {اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ} [البقرة 255] قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ رُبُعُ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ تَزَوَّجْ تَزَوَّجْ تَزَوَّجْ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked one of his companions: O so-and-so! Are you married? He replied: No, I do not have the financial means to marry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you know Surah Al-Ikhlas? He said: Yes, of course. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is one fourth of the Qur'an. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you know Surah Al-Kafirun? He said: Yes, absolutely. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is one fourth of the Qur'an. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you know Surah Az-Zalzalah? He said: Yes, I know it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is one fourth of the Qur'an. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you know Surah An-Nasr? He said: Yes, I know it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is one fourth of the Qur'an. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you know Ayat al-Kursi? He said: Yes, absolutely. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is one fourth of the Qur'an. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then get married, get married, get married. He repeated this three times.
