Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a man should send a proposal of engagement over the engagement of his brother, except if the first proposer leaves the woman or gives permission to the other.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not lawful for a Muslim man to send a proposal for engagement over the engagement of his brother, until he leaves it. Similarly, no man should make a deal over the deal of his brother, unless he leaves it.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No man should send a proposal for engagement over the engagement of his brother, nor should he bargain over the bargain of his brother. A woman should not be married in the presence of her paternal or maternal aunt. No woman should demand the divorce of her sister so that she may pour out what is in her sister’s cup; rather, she should also marry. Surely, she will only receive what Allah the Exalted has decreed for her.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that a man should send a proposal for engagement over the engagement of his brother, or make a deal over his deal.
Narrated by Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: My husband gave me three divorces, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered me to spend my waiting period in the house of Sayyiduna Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him).
It is narrated from Sayyida Fatima bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: When you complete your waiting period (‘iddah), inform me. So I informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him that Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan, Sayyiduna Abu Jahm, and Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them) had sent me proposals of marriage. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Muawiyah is a poor man, he has no wealth, and Abu Jahm is a man who beats women a lot, but Usama, he is suitable. I gestured with my hand that not Usama, I do not want him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Obedience to Allah and His Messenger is better for you. So I married Usama, and I was envied.
