بَابُ فَضْلٍ مَنْ حَبَسَتْ نَفْسَهَا عَلَى أَبْنَائِهَا وَلَمْ تَتزوج وَفَضْلٍ نِسَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ وَغَيْرِ ذَلِكَ
Chapter: The Virtue of a Woman Who Devotes Herself to Her Children and Does Not Marry, and the Virtue of the Women of Quraysh and Others
Hadith 6861
عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((أَنَا وَامْرَأَةٌ سَفْعَاءُ الْخَدَّيْنِ كَهَاتَيْنِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ)) (وَفِي لَفْظٍ: ((أَنَا وَامْرَأَةٌ سَفْعَاءُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ كَهَاتَيْنِ)) وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَ إِصْبَعَيْهِ السَّبَّابَةِ وَالْوُسْطَى) امْرَأَةٌ ذَاتُ مَنْصِبٍ وَجَمَالٍ آمَتْ مِنْ زَوْجِهَا حَبَسَتْ نَفْسَهَا عَلَى أَيْتَامِهَا حَتَّى بَانُوا أَوْ مَاتُوا.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I and the woman with dark cheeks will be like these two fingers, close to each other in Paradise on the Day of Resurrection. At the same time, he (peace and blessings be upon him) joined his index and middle fingers together as a gesture. That woman who possesses status and beauty, but after becoming a widow, restrains herself for the sake of her orphans, until they either become independent from her or pass away.
Hadith 6862
عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَ أُمَّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! إِنِّي قَدْ كَبُرْتُ وَلِيَ عِيَالٌ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((خَيْرُ نِسَاءٍ رَكِبْنَ نِسَاءُ قُرَيْشٍ، أَحْنَاهُ عَلَى وَلَدٍ فِي صِغَرِهِ وَأَرْعَاهُ عَلَى زَوْجٍ فِي ذَاتِ يَدِهِ)). قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: وَلَمْ تَرْكَبْ مَرْيَمُ بِنْتُ عِمْرَانَ بَعِيرًا.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a proposal of marriage to Umm Hani bint Abi Talib. She said: O Messenger of Allah! I am old in age and I have children. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best women who ride camels are the women of Quraysh; they show great affection to their young children and protect their husband's property with utmost care. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sayyidah Maryam bint Imran never rode a camel.
Hadith 6863
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ قَوْمِهِ يُقَالُ لَهَا: سَوْدَةُ وَكَانَتْ مُصْبِيَةً، كَانَ لَهَا خَمْسَةُ صِبْيَةٍ أَوْ سِتَّةٌ مِنْ بَعْلٍ لَهَا مَاتَ، فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَا يَمْنَعُكِ مِنِّي؟)) قَالَتْ: وَاللَّهِ! يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ! مَا يَمْنَعُنِي مِنْكَ إِلَّا أَنْ لَا تَكُونَ أَحَبَّ الْبَرِيَّةِ إِلَيَّ، وَلَكِنِّي أُكْرِمُكَ أَنْ يَضْغُوَ هَؤُلَاءِ الصِّبْيَةُ عِنْدَ رَأْسِكَ بُكْرَةً وَعَشِيَّةً، قَالَ: ((فَهَلْ مَنَعَكِ مِنِّي شَيْءٌ غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ؟)) قَالَتْ: لَا، وَاللَّهِ! قَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((يَرْحَمُكِ اللَّهُ، إِنَّ خَيْرَ نِسَاءٍ رَكِبْنَ أَعْجَازَ الْإِبِلِ، صَالِحُ نِسَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ أَحْنَاهُ عَلَى وَلَدٍ فِي صِغَرٍ وَأَرْعَاهُ عَلَى بَعْلٍ بِذَاتِ يَدٍ)).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a marriage proposal to a woman from his people named Saudah. She had children; from her deceased husband, she had five or six children, so she refused. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What is the obstacle to marrying me? She said: By Allah! O Messenger of Allah! There is no obstacle; you are the most beloved to me on the face of the earth, but I consider you greater and more honorable than for these children to be crying and wailing at your bedside morning and evening. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Is there anything else that is an obstacle? She said: No, by Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May Allah have mercy on you. The best women who ride camels are the righteous women of Quraysh, who show the most compassion to small children and are the best at safeguarding their husband's wealth.
Hadith 6864
عَنْ كَرِيمِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ سَلْمَى بِنْتِ جَابِرٍ أَنَّ زَوْجَهَا اسْتُشْهِدَ فَأَتَتْ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَتْ: إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ قَدْ خَطَبَنِي الرِّجَالُ فَأَبَيْتُ أَنْ أَتَزَوَّجَ حَتَّى أَلْقَاهُ فَتَرْجُو لِي أَنِ اجْتَمَعْتُ أَنَا وَهُوَ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِهِ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: مَا رَأَيْنَاكَ فَعَلْتَ هَذَا مُذْ قَاعَدْنَاكَ، قَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((إِنَّ أَسْرَعَ أُمَّتِي بِي لُحُوقًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ أَحْمَسَ)).
It is narrated from Sayyida Salma bint Jabir (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: My husband was martyred, I went to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Marriage proposals from men are coming to me, but I have refused marriage, I wish to meet my husband in this state, do you give hope that if I and my husband are united, I will be among his wives? He said: Yes. Upon hearing this, a man said to him: Since we have been sitting with you, we have not seen you say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did so? He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The woman from my Ummah who will meet me first in Paradise will be from Ahmas.
